Pretty nice, simple tutorial. Β I didn't really agree though with your part about /never/ adding larger/deeper chests to the male characters, or a bit more muscular definition. Β This tutorial seems to better cover the look of the average, standard male mobian, but playing with the proportions is how you easily make a 'kind of unique' character, into a much more unique character. Β I would however caution people, unless they are totally breaking out into their own style, to keep things like larger chests and muscles simple looking. Β Don't go over board on them, and keep the outline simplified. Β Now you /can/ do some characters with /huge/ upper chest if you want to give the impression that they are super strong, or make them look intimidating. Β Check out Thrash the Tasmanian Devil if you don't get what I mean. Β Bark the Polar Bear is a really good example as well.
I do see this is based on a specific set of artists styles though, and if you want to stay in that style, the always slender bodies might be true. ^.^;
The part about how the character stands it not quite true either. Β That pose, in a visual aspect, yes, is well balanced. Β But for a character aspect, it is not so much about balance, as it is about looking 'cool', confident, and stylish.
Sorry...didn't mean to rain on your tutorial, just wanted to give a little further advice.
