Description Thank you for purchasing an enchanted costume from Witch's Wardrobe.  The costume can be put on just like any other: simply insert your head and limbs into the costume and zip up the zipper on the chest or back.  The similarities end there, though: once the costume is fully on, it fuses to your body and the zipper falls off, meaning you now ARE the creature you're dressing up as!

When you want to take the costume off, simply press the zipper back into place.  This will reverse the enchantment and separate the costume from its wearer, allowing it to be taken off normally.

--TROUBLESHOOTING--

Is it safe to wear a costume over another costume?
Yes.  In fact, you can stack as many costumes as you want with no ill effects-- just try not to lose track of who you really are!

My zipper got lost or broken!  Am I stuck in my costume forever?
Of course not!  Costume zippers are interchangeable, and you can buy replacement zippers at any Witch's Wardrobe costume outlet.

I think someone I just met is wearing an enchanted costume.  How can I find out for sure?
The whole point of Witch's Wardrobe enchanted costumes is that they're indistinguishable from the real thing, but that doesn't mean there's no way to tell.  Any simple transformation-detection magic can be used to distinguish whether or not someone has been transformed by a Witch's Wardrobe costume.  Even if you don't have such magic, simply press a costume zipper onto your suspect, then zip it down; if there's anyone inside, you've caught a Witch's Wardrobe wearer.

What happens if I press a zipper onto an actual person-- i.e. someone who's not wearing a costume?
Pressing a zipper onto a non-costumed person will transform them into an empty costume!  They can then be worn and have the same capabilities as an ordinary Witch's Wardrobe costume (well, as ordinary as they ever get).

If I use a zipper to turn my mate into a costume and wear him, will he know what I'm doing with him?
Yes and no.  As long as a person is transformed into a costume, they'll be in a deep sleep.  However, they tend to have dreams of what their wearer is doing with them.

So how can I tell if a costume is a person transformed by a zipper or not?
Again, simple transformation-detection magic can do the job, but a more accessible option is to zip the costume all the way up with no wearer.  If nothing happens, it's a natural costume; if it's a transformed person, the zipper will come off and they'll return to normal.

have you written any stories with these costumes/zippers in them?
I also love that you added a way to turn back, I've never liked permanent transformations either.

I don't believe I've written any such stories... I think I'm better at creating these concepts than putting them to use.

You never mentioned how much. But a great concept indeed. (I found some internet on my holiday)

They're probably pretty expensive.

Anything that delves into that one trope always unsettles me... this is no exception.

Which trope, in particular, are you referring to?

And I must scream.

Although... looking back and letting the page sink in. This is more 'Grand Theft Me' than the trope I thought it was.

...okay.

Touma-the-Wolfdog In reply to sonicinterface [2014-08-16 20:53:29 +0000 UTC]

Well, the part where sticking the zipper on someone who isn't wearing a costume turns them into one is 'Grand Theft Me'.

sonicinterface In reply to Touma-the-Wolfdog [2014-08-16 21:35:34 +0000 UTC]

I understood that much.

Touma-the-Wolfdog In reply to sonicinterface [2014-08-16 21:50:09 +0000 UTC]

The 'And I must scream' part is more to do with the person who was turned into a costume. Or the one who wears the costume for too long and forgets who they are inside.

I tend to ramble if it's a topic I find interesting. In this case it's tropes.

If at any point you want me to stop or talk about something else. Just say so. I don't wish to bore you with something I'm interested in which you aren't.
