Description
Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not saying people should stop using it altogether. However, I often see people relying a bit too much on it and its female counterpart. I've seen DA galleries that are nothing but "dolls" made with them. To boot, there are a lot of creative characters out there with features beyond the dollmakers' capabilities. I can name a number of my own characters as examples; I looked over the menus and saw no sign of inline skates, multiple heads, or Double Cutters. It may be a good brainstorming tool for beginners, but nobody can be a beginner all their lives.I may or may not make a female dollmaker stamp to go with this one. I'm not sure whether being redundant is better or worse than being sexist.

I agree. I haven't been on here all that long yet, but still... There's really too many dolls made on it. What I always see are galleries that just have the dolls... and only the dolls and maybe a screenshot of their desktop.
On other sites and when I've been on here once before I used to use it... only for ideas, and only posted one or two ideas I had if they were easy to draw.
Nowadays they take over this damned website. :U

I agree with you. Using dollmakers for getting some inspirations is okay but a characters fully made out of furry dollmakers started to seem unoriginal like recolors to me.
I designed the 1st forms of most of my characters on the dollmakers but most of them got redesigned and they are now not looking alot like their old forms.
And for the dolls on main gallery, people seriously should read the artist's comments.

Uploading dollmaker dolls isn't even art at all. So why do these deviants even upload them to deviantART? dA is supposed to be for artists to post THEIR work , not the work of somebody elses generator! Love This Stamp
I see those dolls everywhere I look
The moderators and administrators should set things right! DeviantART is NOT for dollmaker dolls!

Agreed. I think it's ok if some are happy to create their characters via the dollmaker, but it limits creativity and originality. It's nice to see some proper original characters!

In a way I do agree with you but still don't rant about it like this. I've only used that dollmaker once and yes you're right the flash doesn't have enough features to use to create characters. I just recently created one myself..she looks kinda crappy though since half the stuff i intended on her to have wasn't on there but take a look anyways: [link] I'll upload actual drawings A.S.A.P. so be sure to keep your eyes open

I think it's fine for people to use the dollmakers; that's the reason they were created. But I don't think people should just stick to that; they should use it as inspiration to draw their own. I have no aversions to dollmaker; I just feel irritated when I open a gallery and find hundreds of them (which they shouldn't be in considering the cretaor said expressely that they were only to go into scraps and not the gallery). Not only could that be classed as art thievery, but that's not reason tehy're made. They're made to give inspiration and to have fun. me and my little cousins spent ages messing around on there.
So, I think that it is only bad in the fact that you can look up 'dollmaker mobians' and frickin' hundreds of these things crop up and a surprisingly small minority are actually in scraps where they're supposed to be.

I agree, but... I don't know. Perhaps it would have been better to just say that dollmakers are overused altogether. I think it could be controversial as is.
Still, express yourself how you want to. No one should be able to stop others from expression.

This is disrespectful to the artist who created it. Regardless, I do agree people shouldn't be uploading screenshots from it all over DA considering it's not their art. For starters, it's a policy violation.

Kiki-Akuma In reply to Jammerlee [2009-06-05 23:49:16 +0000 UTC]
I don't mean to offend or anything, but...
"Anything you make in this Furry Dollmaker becomes FREE FOR YOU TO USE. Any characters, you are welcome to upload to DeviantArt, or wherever you like, without permission. All I ask is that you give credit or a link to the Furry Dollmaker."
The artist gave permission for people to post them, so I don't think it's a policy violation. Then again, I'm not versed in how art theft could work. I just don't post dolls cuz I don't like the clothing choices. It's too limited for me.
And... I'm not getting into the respect thing. <3?

"UPLOADING: If you want to show other people what you have made, you are welcome to upload it into your SCRAPS on DA, not your MAIN GALLERY. This is against the rules and could be removed. Besides, it's not technically something you have drawn."
Most people do not do this =/ Hence, placing them anywhere BUT scraps makes them a violation.

Would YOU like it if someone created a stamp like this in response to something you made to give to the community? I mean, have you even informed Gen8 about this, or did you just go off and do it on your own? I can't speak for her feelings but I certainly know I wouldn't be happy to randomly stumble across this. The only person who has a legitimate right to make something with this message is Gen8 herself.
π: 0 β©: 1
sonicinterface In reply to Jammerlee [2009-06-05 18:15:41 +0000 UTC]
I don't buy that argument. How does this stamp violate Gen8's rights? As you yourself pointed out, she agrees with my statements, and if publicly commenting on or depicting someone else's public work without their permission is a violation of rights, then so is just about every damn piece of fan-art and fan-fiction presented here on DA!
(At this rate we're going to need a lawyer.)

Its an OPINION, its what YOU think about it. And thats never wrong.
Disrespectfull or not, its not illigal to be disrespectfull nor make an anti stamp, or a 'idontlike' stamp.
Well thats how I look at it.
Now about the stamp, I agree. Brainstorm fine, but then draw it YOUR style.
