Description
I don't mind people writing this and that about the rivalry between Sonic and Mario, but most people (most!) seem to assume that it's the only way to go. I mean, just because the two (and soon, three) games they've appeared together in are centered around competition doesn't mean it's all they can do, does it? I for one am a firm believer that they can bury the hatchet and fight alongside each other, rather than against each other.The Mario's sprite from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga; I downloaded it just for this stamp. The Sonic sprite's from Sonic Advance 2; I had it saved on my hard drive for who knows how long.
Just because we've never seen it happen doesn't mean it can't. And I'm absolutely sure it can. Who's with me?

Note: I did not know of Super Mario Bros. Z at the time that I made this stamp. Now, thanks to those who have commented on it, I am very adequately informed.

My pairing them up likely started out as overcompensating for this trend. (oh rabid fan boys, what have you unleashed on the world? 
I see the sports games as friendly competition. 
I wish I'd see more pictures of them fighting together or just hanging out. And a game where you'd get to fight either character's enemies with the other and have one walk the other's world would be so awesome!
...I wonder if Amy would manage to mistake Mario for Sonic. He does have the same color palette.

Amy probably wouldn't mistake Mario for Sonic. She mistook Shadow for Sonic, but that time the resemblance was shape, not color.

I know that Sega's whole purpose for creating Sonic was to top Mario at his own game, which they were pretty successful at during the Genesis days, but then when Nintendo made Super Mario 64 they were ahead of Sega once again. So I agree that they should just bury the hatchet now, and that's actually what Nintendo and Sega have done now that Sega doesn't make consoles anymore. You'll notice that they no longer make aggressive "Genesis does what Nintendon't" jabs at each other when they were in fierce competition but are more supportive with things like having Genesis games on the Virtual Console. I see them as having a nice partnership now, so Mario and Sonic should be the same.
Also, I think the Olympic Games series is more like a friendly sportsmanship party game between the two characters, whereas Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a more brutal all-out fight like their old rivalry.
