a doodle of my persona using the dark element of Shadow. a slight teaser of one of my next stories, when all I can say is, that when she is truly cornered and has run out of all options, such as using the four natural elements (Water, Wind, Fire, Thunder) she had under her control, she had no other option left but to accept the darkness, and bend it to her will in a dire situation.

now, a little headcanon:

Dark elements were often looked down upon by the Lythians, since there were many cases of those whose minds, as well as their bodies being destroyed if a specific dark element, shadow for example, goes out of their control. those lythians either die being consumed by darkness, or go insane...or worse, succumb to despair and become a demon.

also, Sophie is in fact, the Fourth Shevyrian to use a dark element. there were three others as well who could harness dark elements. one used Poison, the other used Fear, and the third one used Undead. there are particular reasons why many Lythians fear those Dark Elements, as there were two cases of two Heroes of Tarlax whose dark elements went out of their control and resulted in their deaths:

the one who used Fear eventually went insane, unable to handle the stress of being a hero anymore, she became a demon and went on a rampage that almost resulted in the extinction of the Lythian race. and, bearing the last remains of her old self, she destroyed a very powerful monster that threatened the existence of everyone on Tarlax, killing herself as well in the process. she would rather have died than live as a demon.

as for the Hero who used the Undead, the dead and the otherwise supernatural, eventually turned against him and ripped him apart. he watched as innocent people, as well as his loved ones die gruesome deaths by the hands of the ghosts he summoned. he could not take the grief and despair anymore, and coupled with the knowledge he would become a demon eventually, he believed everyone on the planet will be in danger as long as he was alive. he believed his existence was a threat to Tarlax, which added more to his self hatred. and during a gruesome battle against the people who wanted him dead and saw him as a criminal, the ghosts he summoned betrayed him because they could sense those negative feelings he held onto, and released themselves from his control and tore him to shreds. and not a single bone of him remained. but even then, he died with a smile on his face, accepting his fate with the knowledge everyone will be spared from his ''evil'' influence, finally able to rest in peace and let the next Hero take his place and bring only light to the world he had failed to protect.

now, Sophie here, can manipulate the Shadow Element naturally as she would with all the other four elements she had mastered. but if she is consumed by rage, hate, and very heavy stress, the shadows can consume her, destroying her body and her mind in the process. she never thought or imagined she'd ever use a dark element other than when consumed by negative emotions, and fears something bad will happen to her as well if the dark element she uses would kill her like the other two elements that killed the two other Heroes before her.
