Looks gorgeous mate! but I'm not sure if you nailed the facial expression. In the original line art Cutters lips are set in defiant determination, but in your beautiful rendering his lips are more open making it seem like he is less sure of himself.

Wow. Absolutely fabulous. Makes one wish you were coloring the new Elfquest! Of course, I imagine a painting job this realistic must've taken awhile.

Actually Wendy is going to be painting the next one herself. We did talk about doing a calender though.

A calendar would be nice, especially if you can paint some of the months in this style.
Do you know if Wendy is painting this one using Photoshop? I believe that's what she used for the last graphic novel (the one with the Wavedancers) but I thought the colors were a bit cartoony/bright in it. Otherwise, it was fabulous and I can't wait to see how the story progresses.

This is exactly where I am in ElfQuest to the page so this is the perfect spot for me to start commenting on your EQ art now that I know what on earth it really is.
I love how the color allows for so much more in the way of highlights from the B&W. I really like level of realism this achieves. Especially in hair and skin. Save for the Elf ears I can picture the face on people passing by.
I do have a question and it goes for both the original and your piece. Are the outer edges of his pants a different color from the front bit? I was thinking light source but then the wrap seemed weird just on the pants, the rest is all very directional. I know absolutely feck all about such things in comics though so would be more than thrilled to know anything or the concept behind it or even if it is as simple as silly woodchuck the pants are two tones.

No, you're right. It's just back lighting but it's not exactly right. It needs some reworking but doesn't look quite as jarring in the final version [link] Also Cutter doesn't have the 5 o'clock shadow in the final version.

Compared to the original picture I think it brings out a lot of Realism or 3Dness to it. Something along those lines. Overall, FREAKIN' AWESOME!!

Btw, I probably sound like a broken record but ever since you told me Skywise was your favorite character I hear your voice whenever I read his lines. If you get a chance to think about it, I'd love to hear how you'd make Skywise sound if he was animated.
