There are two types of things in the worlds : the things that go aay, and those which stay. I guess my fanatism toward Evangelion goes in this second category. I've over-loved this series for more than 5 years, but I had yet to do a "proper fanart" of it. It's now done. Yay !. This drawing was of course inspired by the viewing for the nth time of the End of Evangelion, but also from the doujinshi "Re-Take" that I bought at the Comicket last week and which is pretty cool ! (it's the complete rewriting of the end of the series, and it's well done !)(for the eva fanatics here : I know the Eva Series 5 are not supposed to have their wings anymore in that final scene, but I just needed wings for the compo so I was a bit sacrilegious...XD)

If End of Evangelion ended with Shinji and Asuka revealing their love to each other (instead of Shinji crying for the 37th time and Asuka saying something mean and hearthless), it would have been a decent ending, showing that they both evolved from something negative to something possitive.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was never about happiness and joy, or (semi)happy endings.
Anno did something you rarely see happen, and he recieved bad critics for it (unfortunatly), only because people want it to end how they want it to end, not how it should or how author wants it to end. He went out of what is today a standard (spoiled happy endings), you rarely enjoy movies today (horror, action, etc) because everything is so damn predictable it's actually sad.

I personally find that different doesn't equal better, and something shouldn't be praised simply for departing from the norm. Still, I cut Eva's creator slack since he was dealing with depression, would you believe that people actually sent him death threats while he was fighting it?

No, different most definetly does not equal better. But many are afraid to try different and experiment with things.
And people are people... can't expect them to be considerate at any moment of anyones life. Quite sad... I hope they're still pissed about the endings xD

Yeah, I dislike EoE not because it's different, but because I feel it's badly written. Regardless, I don't believe in sending death threats to the show's creator after the normal finale, the problems of which weren't all his fault and happened thanks to budget issues outside his control, which his mental health problems makes me feel those nuts deserved that ending it makes me perfectly willing to shut up about it.

this anime is a rare blend of epic as hell and confusing as f***. Also, in regard to Rebuild of evangelion, when those movies are all out, what do i do with the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series that i watched? do i just forget it ever happened? because isnt the Rebuild supposed to be Hidaiki Anno's true vision for the series? everybody knows the original series had serious budget issues, and money is hardly an object for rebulid. this is Anno's revenge, isnt it? As i've heard, Rebuild has differences than the original series, so what do i do?
also if you are going to enjoy NGE, watch the anime. it was an anime first. the manga came after. or so my research has told me.

Rebuild is to approach the wider audience, those that want action, fanservice, and easy to understand story.
What do you with the original NGE Episodes 1-24 + End of Evangelion? You stay true to it, it is the original, it is better.
Though Rebuild of Evangelion had AWESOME EFFECTS and AWESOME MUSIC and AWESOME ANIMATION, it will not impact the viewer as the Original can.
So... watch the Rebuild as a fanservice and entertainment, and watch the original when you need an EXPERIENCE and questions.
I don't see the Rebuild as Anno's true vision of the story, you can't (well, you can but TV houses don't want you to) remake something with just better effects and so on, you need to come up with something new. Original NGE is true to Anno, as it is his original creation, which he made while going through personal searching and depression.
Or think of it as, "You now have original to worship, and rebuild to droole over, take your pick.".
Differences between the Original and Rebuild are quite visible (talking about story), as in the Rebuild everything is more simplified to reach a wider audience (also includes more fanservice).

Yeah I heard of the theories and I quite like it as one of possible worlds that could exist as a result of End of Evangelion. What bothers me however is how much of the original feeling and quality it lost with the Rebuild. And when they all started flying in the third movie... it just made me sick and really repusled by the Rebuild.

i only have a problem with the beginning of 3.0. i have little to no problem with the first 2 rebuilds. the only overall problem being in movie form you can't do what what they did in the episode format like the series. not nearly as deep or personal. also 1 thing my links didn't point out is the fact that i also believe the sequel theory cause in the manga by sadamoto the ending of it is identical to the EOE movie except at the last part before washing up on the beach. in the manga it instead fast forwards to the future to a time many years/decades after eoe. but just like the rebuilds shinji, asuka, kensuke, toji and a special appearance by mari in the mangaΒ are the same characters but different roles. still the same age even tho is WAY in the future. and even the MP eva's that stayed on earth are covered in snow and are reffered to as " unkown relics". also shinji meets asuka but doesn't know who she is.
so in short what happened in the manga overall is what happens in the rebuilds. the characters come back the same but slightly different roles, the environment has remnants of the battle in EOE, and on evangelion 1.0 it clearly says evangelion is a story that repeats itself. i believe in the sequel theory but i hope the 4th movie doesn't destroy me lol.

The author stayedΒ true to NGE and all the confusion that made sense.
When Shinji got into the Tree of Life he technicaly became a God. That's why we have Death & Rebirth, EoE's ending, Rebuild... So what happens in the fanfiction is the world being reset over and over again with Shinji trying to find that one world that he'd like to exist in.

Hmm..well Mechwarriors have very few mechs that have fingers,the only ones that do are the Obsoleet ones. Exect for the Atlas,that thing can distroy a city if it self destrucked,or if it was disteroed.
