Description
I can't believe I actually finished a tutorial! I always start them but quit part way through, so this is quite a feat. It's huge- about 100 pictures. It is the entire sculpture from wire armature all the way down to hair. Just click "download" on the left hand side. Enjoy. For those who can't use PDFs, the tutorial is also online here: [link]
Let me know if anything is confusing or makes no sense. I've been on a lot of hydrocodone lately *bronchitis*

I have some weird feedback for you. I tried using your method with the floral tape to hold the tinfoil bulking together on the armature-- and just as in your tutorial there were cracks all over the sculpture. Prior to this I had never had a sculpture crack. I just now made another sculpture without floral tape, and no cracks. You may want to nix the tape from your recipe, it'll save you tons of headaches.

When you work a lot on a sculpture, clay tends to come away from the metal armature leaving sometimes large internal air pockets which would lead to it breaking far easier if dropped. I've made virtually every sculpture in my gallery using floral tape, and I'm not going to stop because your sculpture cracked. Usually they don't crack. Cracking is caused by the sculpture being heated too fast or cooled too fast, or a smoother such as mineral oil being used.

Omg I love you so much for making this. I just got some 14 gauge wire yesterday by accident and freaked out because I had no idea how to fasten the legs to the main wire x) Thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
I have a question for you. Okay whenever I begin to paint my sculptures I notice little brush hairs or sometimes even dust collects on the paint I place on the sculpture. Even when I open a newly bought brush. Would you happen to have any tips how to prevent this?
Thanks!

SovaeArt In reply to Sepla [2012-04-30 13:06:44 +0000 UTC]
Hi there,
Firstly you need to buy good quality brushes. Most of the brushes I use cost between $5-30 each. Secondly you need to wash them really well before using them, that will dislodge any loose bristles. Dust sticking to your sculpture usually just means there's dust in the air, it's naturally going to stick to something sticky. Get a particulate air filter for the room you use for painting.
It's rare you're going to get an absolutely perfect paint job (with no "bits" in it) so how crazy you go over preventing such things is entirely up to you

Awesome tutorial
I was wondering, the binder medium and epoxy putty - is there any website you could recommend for purchasing these?
I live in Sweden, and I've been searching the web for Swedish sites and stores, but also came across some international ones..
Seeing there's alot of different sites and brands to choose from, I thought I'd ask you for your opinion, if there's any website you'd recommend over others.

Wow! Your work is truly amazing!
I have one question for you, you say that you use polymer clay, would you mind telling me what kind or where you get it? I've made smaller sculptures before out of Fimo/Sculpey but it seems like your hands would get pretty sore having to soften up that much!
π: 0 β©: 1
SovaeArt In reply to owlblock [2012-02-06 20:24:05 +0000 UTC]
Well, your hands do get sore softening it up and that's pretty much the nature of the clay. I use either mixes, or kato polyclay.
