This is ever so helpful. XD
Question though, if you only need one stitch the color yellow, and the go back to blue. Do you cut the yarn? That might not make sense.

I have question, wouldn't you have to tie it off so it doesn't slip out? I would think that it would easily break or unravel if you do it that way, I tie the yarn off and hide the knot but that takes forever.

thank you so much for this! I moved away from the woman who taught me crochet, and my mum doesn't know tricks like this, so this added to my crocheting experience a ton I'm using it with my friend's scarf and I'm sure she'll like it even more like this now

question: if it's going between two colors, how do you switch the colors back and forth without leaving random strings around? I hope that makes sense.

I usually don't mind loose ends and random strings -
You can pick up a plastic yarn needle at wal-mart or a craft store and weave the loose ends into the scarf. They are ridiculously inexpensive and all those random strings won't be noticeable at all. (:

how come the yarn sting that is coming from the yarn ball is on the front instead of the back for me?

Try doing it again. May be you did yours backwards.

Thanks for the help. I'm currently crocheting a blanket with words on it. Changing color is not a problem with me. Keeping the loose ends and the long stands of unused yarn on the wrong side is my problem. I have the long strand of unused on the both sides. How do I keep them on the back side? And how do I trim the unused yarn without it falling to pieces?
I hope all that made sense....

Sparrow-dream In reply to spiffy143 [2009-05-17 06:35:46 +0000 UTC]

I use a yarn needle to weave in the ends. I leave the ends long just to make sure I have enough to weave in. To get them on the same side I make sure I start the ends on the same side.
