How tight do you make your chains? I'm having trouble getting the hook through the chain in step 1...

Hmm quick question. When I turn around. How do I keep stitching? Same way I was stitching across the first chains? I'm a little lost there.

I'm soooo glad you included how to change rows... that's usually where all the sources out there bow out and leave the rest to the beginners imagination!
Simple. Helpful photos. Love your work.

okay this is impossible. i keep ending up with a tangled mess of yarn and im trying to follow it but i am somehow messing up and i dont know what i could be doing wrong... maybe my chains are just too tight or something...

Hmmm...I don't know exactly what you are doing since I can't see through the computer, but may be you are making your chains too tight. Try to relax a bit. Most people don't get crocheting right the first time and it takes a lot of practice to get the tension just right. The chains shouldn't be too tight that you can't get the the hook through. And if you still don't get it there are lots of other tutorials out there. I've seen lots of video tutorials that could be some help.

Even though this is easy to follow, I'm still having trouble making the single stitch.
I guess crocheting isn't for me. ;___;

There's lots of video tutorials on how to crochet. That might be easier. Just google it.

The way that I have done stitching is yarning over, then putting it through the second chain, yarning over, pulling through two, yarn over, pull through the other two. That's how I do it...is that wrong?

That might be double crochet or half double, but if it works for you then its correct. I can't really imagine all those steps in my head.

I decided to take up crocheting in order to take my mind off of finals week(s). I'm just getting the hang of doing a single stitch and am very gratful for your tutorials

Oh noes! Don't get too addicted before finals. I'm glad the tutorials helpped though. So far I've been knitting instead of studying.

This one isn't the DD, but it's the one I've had issues with. Knitting? Show me a pattern and I'll knit it, but I haven't been able to get the hang of crochet yet. So thank you!

Thank you so much. I have been trying to learn crochet from a book (with the help of my mom), and it doesn't provide enough pictures or explanation for me, so I've been stuck on single stitch. Much appreciation.

is it suppose to turn into a triangle if you kept doing it? D:
if not, I did something wrong

Sparrow-dream In reply to xxch0pstixx [2007-08-19 08:29:47 +0000 UTC]
uhh no. But it might be my fault. Did you chain one at the end of each row and then start single stitching in the first single stitch from the hook? May be I should have worded it better.
