Double crochet. But double stitch isn't really good for amigurumi since stuffing tends to fall out of the holes. This was my lazy attempt at a pikachu.

im still learning this stuff. i only started crocheting this week. so far im pretty good at amigurumi. last night i used your birdie pattern to practice and i really liked how it came out.

I'm glad they helped. I pretty much only know single, double, popcorn , and afghan stitch. There's lots of tutorials on how to make simple stitches, but I don't know if there's more complicated ones on the internet.

you seem to be doing well though to be making your own patterns for certain things, like for your pikachu. i'm hoping i can eventually progress to that point but i am very terrible at math.

You don't need to know that much math, but it helps. It just takes a lot of trial and error until you get the pattern right.

Sorry I don't have a pattern for this one. But I'm trying to make an amigurumi tutorial. If I ever finish it then it can easily be modifed into a pikachu.
