The scene really does have a strong feeling of being set in a nightmarish inferno. Most of the flames behind the characters are much taller than them, showing how quickly the blaze is growing out of control, with the tips of even the smallest flames swaying wildly in the air. There's even a mid-air explosion to heighten the tension. While I'm on the subject of the flames, I'm very impressed at how you went the extra mile and drew a subtle aura of heat around the flames, making them appear to glow...even the yellow inside the fire has very subtle bits of white to add extra depth and realism to the burning conflagration.

The erupting volcano and deep red sky help complete the scene, making it feel almost as if the duo are standing upon a planet that is about to go nuclear any second.

The designs are very appealing to me...obviously influenced by FIM, but at the same time, taking cues from the more realistically equine art styles of the first and third generations of MLP.

Speaking of realism, I really like that fuzzy fur is obviously visible around one of Twi's ankles/fetlocks. It's a little thing, but a charming thing.

Even with Twilight in mostly grayscale, there's still a lot to look at in terms of her colors...depending on where one looks on her body, she's many shades of gray. While obviously she was like that in the cartoon as well, there seems to be more layers to her quite a few more layers coloration here, making her feel more real.

Getting Twilight's magic aura to wrap around everything that it needed to, and figuring out where it should look transparent, and where it should look like it's overshadowing whatever it is consuming, must have been a pain, but you managed it.

The scene does indeed feel very similar to the final fight at the end of the Lion King, without being a carbon copy, and it's my faint memory of that fight that made me realize how appropriate Twi's stance is...Just as Simba and Scar struck repeatedly at each other with their front limbs, Twilight appears to have wailing on Dash in rage with punches...her brutality is made frighteningly clear by the bloody hoof shaped wounds on Rainbow Dash's side. The slash marks are a grim reminder that equine hooves are effectively giant nails.

There's a ton going on with Rainbow, not only due to her usual variety of colors, but also due to how beat up she is...she's managed to stand against Twilight, but has been unable to do any damage, but, as the two of them fight in the mud, and Dash stands cut, bleeding, burnt, and in tears, she's still able to make it to Twilight's face...and that kiss, that small ray of hope in the nightmarish scene, shows the depth of Dash's love and bravery.

Uh, I can't say I see them in an intimate moment after their fight...but I dunno. We'll see. I just started ch.2 last night.
