Description a high speed shot of the F-18 Super Hornet just tearing up the sky. the unique design of the F-18 makes it possible to get shots like this where the air is crushed so much around it, that it looks as though it is flying inside a cloud.

high spped camera and mad skillz as a photo guy (me) also needed.

4-24-09 EDIT:

thanks to all for the nice comments and favs. I WILL BE RE-WORKING THIS FOR A LARGER AND CLEANER IMAGE.

to all concerned with the watermark: IT IS THERE FOR A REASON. I DO NOT TAKE KIND TO MY IMAGES BEING STOLEN. THE WATERMARK PREVENTS A LOT OF THAT. I USED TO SHOW PICTURES WITHOUT THE WATERMARK, AND I LOST A LOT OF WORK TO THIEVES. please respect my decision on that. if there was actual web coding that would prevent any and all stealing of the image, I will gladly remove the mark.

Oh no, my evil scheme to steal your art and use it without your permission has been foiled by the HUGE watermark that completely renders the full view useless and obscure.

Come on people! You're here to share work, stop all this nitpicking copyrights crap. If someone wanted to print this they would need higher resolution anyway, and if someone wants to photomanipulate it, they still can. And besides, why not let them?

Get over yourselves please, for everyone's sake.

well, i would but i have already been the victim of it. in some cases, images i have on here have been optioned for *exclusive* use by an outside company, when that happens, i cant let anyone else use it. so in that way, i am saving my own ass.

This makes me quite mournful. If you can't, as an artist, grasp the importance of copyright then there really is no hope for the mindless masses.

It's not about money, printing etc it's about artistic integrity. It's about stopping people plastering your art all over myspace, blogs etc. A photograph of military vehicles could be used in all manner of negative fashions, on pro or anti war websites, in ways the artist doesn't feel comfortable with. It's to stop things like that.

However, people have taken 500px images of mine and printed from them. The resolution doesn't bother art thieves, people can't complain about the quality until they've run away with their money.

If this hasn't happened to you, well done. It will do, eventually.

Slight-Shift In reply to Mollinda [2009-04-25 00:11:23 +0000 UTC]

It has happened to me. The latest being a Fanart image I did for Starcraft which when SC2 was announced I found all over the forums.
And you know what? I was excited. The image wasn't made for commercial use - it was art! I made it, besides for enjoying the process and the final outcome, for other people to enjoy!
I'm delighted each time I see something I made impact someone's life. And I'm excited to see art OTHER people do impact people's lives. That is cultural evolution, my friend.

So the whole point here isn't protecting your hard earned efforts from commodity thieves. No one who publishes work on DA can do that really. So why not really share your art? I find watermarking images petty, ignorant, egoistic and childish. Once you upload it, it's not exclusively yours anyway.

Anyway, good luck to you. I'm done with this thread.

Mollinda In reply to Slight-Shift [2009-04-25 22:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Of course it's exclusively yours. It's your intellectual and creative property.

You can whore your work out free to whoever wants it if you so wish, but do not throw insults at people who choose to enforce their legal, moral and artistic rights.

Slight-Shift In reply to Mollinda [2009-04-25 23:47:17 +0000 UTC]

You can't OWN your art once you publish it!
You might own the RIGHTS to it, it really isn't yours anymore.

If your work can inspire someone to do something, it's exactly a form of using it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mollinda In reply to Slight-Shift [2009-04-25 23:55:39 +0000 UTC]

No, it's not using it. Using is directly taking the image and doing something physical with it. Taking inspiration from something is totally different.

Wishy washy, philisophical ideas really have little relevance to copyright law.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to Mollinda [2009-04-26 00:08:06 +0000 UTC]

Copyright law is the same copy right law that existed 20 years ago, when there was no internet and transfer of digital culture.
Copy right laws are lagging behind on modern understanding of culture, technology, and relevance to reality. There might be laws addressing copy rights on the internet, but the are simply emulations of the old laws and not rethought approach.

These ideas are philosophical only until you put them to practice, and to do that one must raise awareness, because obviously this is not going to dawn on any legislators if there is no support.
So why don't you stop trying to shut me up, and go read a little on the subject of free culture.

Christ... I'm presenting a new approach here, and people aren't willing to listen or consider objectively. Instead of being happy to hear new opinions and ideas, people get defensive of their position right away and from then on it's simply a game of "Defend my stance" instead of "find out more and reevaluate what suites me best".
Granted, though, I came on too hard.
Anyway, I'm not arguing with you about this anymore. You decide what you want to do, it's not up to me anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mollinda In reply to Slight-Shift [2009-04-26 10:13:46 +0000 UTC]

Presenting a new approach is something you do in your own journals, on your own space, not on a DD, not on someone else's artwork. It's rude, inconsiderate and quite frankly makes you look like an idiot. Which you evidently are not as you have thought this through in great detail.

I'm all for changing the world, but people are more likely to listen if you don't force it on them, if you pay attention to common courtesy, if you put your ideas across in a non threatening, non insulting manner.

Basic common sense really.

wow, you're a dick. you obviously don't understand how important people's work is to them. i suggest you put your heart and soul into something and see if you like the idea of someone else being able to snatch it away and claim it. meanwhile, shut up.

and dude who took the shot-- mad props, yo. this pic is fantastic!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to tigre-de-la-luna06 [2009-04-24 14:57:06 +0000 UTC]

Calm down, and listen.
I'd be delighted to see that work I've put all of myself into, and I have done so on many projects, were used by other people. It's the same as having your work inspire someone, as far as I'm concerned.
That's how culture evolves and develops - and digital media allows for it in whole new ways.
But besides, "snatching it away and claiming it"? So what, your ego will be hurt?
Who do you do your work for? What's your goal when you create anyway?

Instead of flaming, go read a little about free culture. Better mankind a little instead of sticking to egoistic dogmas.

Rahll In reply to Slight-Shift [2009-04-24 16:37:52 +0000 UTC]

I hope you realize you're in the minority, and on top of that, you act like your opinion is the best opinion and the only one anybody should have. I think it's you who needs to calm down and respect people's right to protect their work. Almost every country on the earth has copyright law, you think you know better? Relax, you're not gonna change anyone's opinion with condescending remarks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Slight-Shift In reply to Rahll [2009-04-25 00:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Didn't mean for anything to sound condescending.
Being in the minority isn't a measure for anything, I hope you realize.

So let's put it this way - what exactly is the watermark on this SPECIFIC image good for? What could possibly be done to this photo that requires demolishing a chance to properly watch and enjoy it?
