Description
a high speed shot of the F-18 Super Hornet just tearing up the sky. the unique design of the F-18 makes it possible to get shots like this where the air is crushed so much around it, that it looks as though it is flying inside a cloud.high spped camera and mad skillz as a photo guy (me) also needed.
4-24-09 EDIT:
thanks to all for the nice comments and favs. I WILL BE RE-WORKING THIS FOR A LARGER AND CLEANER IMAGE.
to all concerned with the watermark: IT IS THERE FOR A REASON. I DO NOT TAKE KIND TO MY IMAGES BEING STOLEN. THE WATERMARK PREVENTS A LOT OF THAT. I USED TO SHOW PICTURES WITHOUT THE WATERMARK, AND I LOST A LOT OF WORK TO THIEVES. please respect my decision on that. if there was actual web coding that would prevent any and all stealing of the image, I will gladly remove the mark.

You must have been traveling at top speed to catch this bird! Not to mention trying to breathe in thin air! Excellent capture and congratulations on the DD!

number 1 was some luck. then it was a few things in camera setup, fast shutter speeds is a must, high ISO in certain shots. i also shot this in jpeg instead of Raw to get more shots per second...to have more to choose from.
i grew up around fighters, so i am used to how they fly, turn, and the lines they use in air shows. so i plan my angles and their route.
also having the VIP treatment and being in the flightline area and not behind a crowd fence like everyone else was the best perk.
now, the vapor itself is due to humidity in the air. if a jet goes fast enough, especially an F-18, they create so much pressure around them as they force the air, that it condenses and forms clouds or even water vapor streams from the wingtips.

Ah cool.
I don't see air show things alot, Except for the occasional drop and burn and dog fights for new years party and the river festival.

they have some killer shows in california. and Nellis in vegas does a good job too.
get to one this spring. i think the blue angels open up their season in El Centro most years, then there is also Sacramento. any show they do over water is really great to shoot. they are also allowed to go a bit faster if they do a show off the coast.

It looks like the plane is coming out of a cloud, but very slowly! Nice shot!
