Description
Hey there!I'm back with my second tutorial! Were going back a little though with this one on teaching the basics in photoshop.
I've put this tutorial together for everyone and anyone new to photoshop or still not sure where certain things are and what all those crazy windows are for.
If the interface of Photoshop looks different from yours it's because I'm using version CS2, and you may have an older version, but you can still find most of the tools and windows in the tutorial so don't panic too much
I plan on contuing with the tutorial so stay tuned if you want to learn more.
This includes: cleaning lineart(line paper, color paper, line paper), layers, Filters, advanced coloring.
I hope this tutorial was helpful.
I spent at least 3 hours on it x_x which is pretty long for me. I didn't plan on spending this much time but got into it as I was making it
So yeah..Enjoy ^^~<3
NOTE: Character used for coloring examples is an original.

Well, if you mean draw efficiently then your best off getting a drawing tablet(wacom tablet) but they are rather expensive($75-and up) and for more serious artists. You can draw with a mouse or the easier thing to do would be to draw your work on paper and scan it onto your computer and open it in phtoshop.

Thank you sooo much! I just began using my deviantart account to post images, and I just did my first lineart color with photoshop. I have version 7, so this really helped. I didn't know what some of those thing were for, but I know that I can definitely use the burn tool now...I thought I was going to have to shade everything by hand
One question, though:how did you get those bright shines on the girls's hat and eyes, etc.? You hint at using the dodge tool, but I wasn't sure. If you could let me know that would be a big help. Thank you so much!

Hi!! SOrry it's taken so long to get back to you D: !
I used the dodge tool to create the hightlights on the hat and eyes. To get to the dodge tool you right-click on the burn tool .
Hope I could help! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

I'm thinking of getting PS but I don't know which one...because some cost 200 some dollars on up...I just want something that's an okay price (less than 50 for sure) but I can work with...and does it work with vista??
π: 0 β©: 1
Spoonful0fcats In reply to Autumn1083 [2008-06-29 00:11:58 +0000 UTC]
Well..I'm..not sure what photoshop would cost as cheap as $50 and be decent...but you can always download it from the site at [link] . The trial is good for 30 days(unless you find a keygen for it).
You have to check the software requirements to see if it works on vista. I'd imagine the newest version and CS3 do though.

uh... the part when u explaind the where u highlight her hair and stuff. i can't get that 1 ^^'
π: 0 β©: 1
Spoonful0fcats In reply to PatienceiAIO [2008-09-25 17:42:59 +0000 UTC]
Oh, to get the highlights, you drag the dodge tool over the layer of color you want to highlight.
If you want the light source to be on the right side then you would highlight mainly the right side of the character, so maybe have the highlight on the hair go about halfway, about to the part of the hair.
Where you highlight depends on where your light source is coming from.
