A group of trainers and Pokemon traveled through a forest on the northern side of the Thorund Wilds. In the lead was a young woman wearing a thick cloak over layered dresses. A shiny Dedenne sat in Maris Mab’s hood. Hermione had no problem taking advantage of being her trainer’s favorite. At the aspiring noble’s side was a Pancham holding a thick cloak close to her body. Behind her were two older trainers. The woman wore a long jacket and cloak. In her arms, Rosette held her Stunky. Pack had a pink cloak around her body for if she chose to walk her trainer’s side. The man had as many Pokemon traveling outside as the other two combined. Kennar Sage wasn’t going to repeat his past mistakes and kept his Pichu on his shoulder, his Prinplup walking beside him, and his Primal Hoothoot flying above the group.

Lights on the Hoothoot’s body and the soft ticking sound coming from within her added to the group’s sense of urgency. The blue glow was a constant reminder of the legendary the group was trying to gain favor with, Suicune, the North Wind. The steady tick tock combined with the sorrowful sound of wind blowing through tree branches reminded them of the urgency. The Queen of Thorund Wilds, Lucretia Wolfe, was requesting as many trainers as she could to go on pilgrimages in honor of her legendary patron to find a way through the troubling times in the Realms.

They came to a clearer section of the forest and saw the shrine. It was a simple building made of a plain, bluish gray rock. Bells and brightly colored ribbons hung from the roof of the building. They chimed softly, adding to the sorrowful song on the wind. The group ascended the shallow stairs to the inside.

In the center of the building was a Suicune statue in a bluish stone. Some light blue gems were used to mark the eyes, and blue, gold, and lilac ribbons were wrapped around the statue in an attempt to imitate the colors of the real legendary. The lilac ribbons had bells dangling from them. Maris slowly walked around it, the quickly turned to move somewhere else. A Wild Charge Ranger Uniform was examining an old ribbon with a tattered edge.

“What’s wrong?” asked Maris.

“A bell is missing,” said the ranger. “It’s one of the older ones. I don’t think this is a good omen.”

“My Dedenne has a knack for finding items,” said Maris. “We’ll go out and look.”

“Thank you,” she said. “It’s a round bell made of brass, about this big.” The ranger’s hands formed a shape roughly the size of an apple.

The other two trainers nodded. Violette huffed and threw back on her cloak. Larry the Prinplup already moved to exit, while Pack the Stunky let out an annoyed growl before slowly getting to her feet and walking to her trainer. Maris headed outside and wrapped a scarf around Hermione before placing her on the snow.

“Hey, sweetie,” said Maris. “I need you to find something. You’re fast and clever. I know you can do this.”

The Dedenne began scampering around and pawing at piles of snow. Hermione wasn’t really a tracker, so much as a Pokemon that picked up whatever sparked her fancy.

The rest of the group followed her lead. Kennar and Larry had a brief whispered conversation. Kennar joined the search, while Larry called up to Clair.

“Look for lone sets of prints,” called Larry. The Prinplup found a log and looked inside it. His teammate, Ray, twitched his golden, square ears and wandered inside. The Pichu popped out of the other side and shook his head.

“Why did you check the log?” asked Pack.

“It could be stolen and hidden,” said Violette. She lifted a rock and looked under it.

Hermione looked up from her search around the temple. “Who would steal from Suicune?” she asked.

“We can’t rule it out,” said Larry. “A lot of new legends just appeared after that feather chaos.”

“And Queen Lucretia would definitely tolerate it if the Institute or the Sacred Flame were working against her patron,” said Pack. She rolled her eyes and continued look at tracks in the snow around the temple.

“But fighting the Institute would be terrible,” said Ray. “And the Sacred Flame…” The Pichu trailed off and began digging.

The group continued searching in silence. The wind in the tree branches and the louder ticking noise of Clair approaching were the only sounds for a while. Clair landed on a thick tree branch. “Larry,” she said. “I found a set of tracks that lead to a part of the forest that’s not near any trails.”

“It could be a wild Pokemon,” scoffed Pack.

“Clair, show me,” said Larry.

Hermione glanced at Pack, who was in no hurry to leave, then at Larry and Clair. “I’m coming too,” she said. She ran to Larry and climbed on to his shoulder.

The trail Clair found lead back into the forest and stopped at a twisted tree with a hollow in it. Hermione climbed higher and sniffed it. There was no strong scent of wild Pokemon, so she entered. There was a round shape the size of a fruit. Hermione moved forward and picked it up. She felt cold metal in her paws and heard a jingling sound when she lifted it.

“Do wild Pokemon take things from shrines?” she said.

“I don’t think so,” said Larry. The Prinplup gasped when he saw Hermione emerge with the stolen bell with a look of dread on her face. He turned to Clair and said softly. “Get the trainers.”

She flew off quickly and returned with the three trainers and the other three Pokemon in tow.

“Your Pokemon did a good job,” said Rosette.

Maris nodded and picked up Hermione. The Dedenne buried her face in Maris’s layers of clothes. “Have either of you seen tracks like these?” she asked.

“I haven’t,” said Kennar.

“No,” said Rosette.

“We should take the bell back, make our tribute, then show this to the Ranger,” said Maris.

At the temple, Maris handed back the bell, then the group began leaving tributes and prayers to Suicune. Rosette let Deck out of his Pokeball to help, and the cheery little Azurill bounced around ringing bells and tried to dance for the statue. The other Pokemon and trainers joined in as best they could but weren’t able to manage the same level of mirth.
