The combination of the war and the destruction of one of Suicune’s temples had shattered the peace in Lhaindor more thoroughly than the feather riots. There were weekly processions by the most devout worshipers of Shaymin and Reshiram in the streets as people looked to the other two legendary Pokemon that had helped establish the Realms.

Maris and Rosette had decided to spend the afternoon in a Shaymin procession. Candles flickered in front of doors in an attempt to call the Gentle Farmer to protect the land. People had spent a few days working on food to deliver to the capitol’s hungry. The two trainers were handing out bread and dumplings. Maris’s Pancham was helping by carrying bags for the two trainers. Rosette’s Azurill was less helpful as he hopped around people’s feet. He was good at cheering up children, at least. Deck bumped into a man distributing fruit while leading a group of kids on a chase. He fumbled with the bundle of fruit in his arms and dropped it.

“I’m sorry,” said Rosette kneeling down to pick up the fruit. “He’s trying to be helpful.”

“Are you two followers of Shaymin?” he asked.

“Not devoutly,” confessed Maris. “It all depends on whether or not the farmers need help or are starting or ending a season.”

Rosette nodded in agreement.

“And what about you?” asked the man. He knelt down so he was eye level with Violette.

Violette blinked in shock. His words were as clear to her as if another Pancham had said it, but when Maris, whom she’d known since hatching, spoke, Violette could only piece together roughly what Maris meant with her tone, gestures, and the few words of human speech she had picked up. “The same as my trainer,” she said. She pointed to Maris with one of her paws. The trainers were looking equally confused, and Deck had stopped by to see what had caused the group to stop. The kids that were chasing him moved on to another game.

“Do you speak Pokemon?” asked Deck. The Azurill leaned forward.

“Yes,” said the man.

“Can you teach Rosette?” asked Deck. “There are so many things I want to tell her.”

“That is not in my power,” he said. He rose and turned back to the trainers. “However, if you and others aid me, I can make peace. If you want to help, come find me when you’re done distributing food.” He moved ahead, passing apples out to people. “My friend would appreciate it if this tradition continued,” he whispered to himself.

Rosette and Maris were silent while they continued distributing food. Rosette quickly forgot about the people around her once she had been sure they’d received a chunk of bread, and Maris cut down on small talk. Violette was handing out food, and Deck was handing out small dumplings to kids. The group were still wondering about the conversation. Only legendary and psychic Pokemon could easily communicate with both humans and Pokemon, but this person appeared to be an ordinary man. After distributing their supplies, the two women split off to look for the man they met earlier.

They found him at the center of a group of trainers. The trainers in the group looked strong, wealthy, or both. There were probably a few kings and queens in the group, and definitely several trainers who served as close advisers to kings and queens. The man from before stood in front of them.

“I am Celebi,” he said. “And I’ve come on behalf of Shaymin to beseech you to help end the wars that plague this land.”

There was a mumble of agreement throughout the crowd.

“With mortals and legendary Pokemon caught in this conflict, I need the kings and queens of mortals to join in the negotiation. Send word to your leaders, then tomorrow, leave with me for Ethaya to seek out Xerneas and Jirachi. Thank you. I hope to see you tomorrow morning.”

The next day, several of the trainers from the previous night were at the city’s eastern gate. A few had pulled strings to get some caravans to help carry trainers to their destination. Many more were probably at the post station arranging for letters to be sent. Maris had gone there that morning to have a few letters delivered to some kings and queens that she knew, and by the time she left the building was full of people. It was noon when they finally set out, and after two days of relatively uneventful travel, they arrived at a large tree at the center of a field of pink and while flowers.

The tree’s width and the gnarled branches that reached towards the sky showed that the tree was old, easily older than the recent settlements. Wish tags were tied to the lower branches with ribbons. Purple and green fabric were laid on the ground, and based on the color and relative lack of where, these were much newer. Sparkling stones and bundles of herbs sat on the bolts of green fabric, while festive snacks and the remains of fireworks were on the purple cloth.

Celebi stood in front of the tree and raised his arms. “Xerneas, Breath of Life, and Jirachi, the Wishmaker,” said Celebi. “I, the Forest’s Memory Celebi, call upon you to aid me in bringing peace to the realms on behalf of Shaymin.”

Celebi was the only one who didn’t cover his eyes as several lights flashed brightly, then two pillars of light appeared from the sky. From the light purple one, ascended a small Pokemon that somewhat resembled a figure in festival robes. A metallic pink star decorated her head, and from it came long ribbons that resembled wish tags. From her back were a pair of long and thick pink ribbons decorated with darker pink flowers that resembled summer festival robes. A much larger figure appeared from the green light. A long white and gold leg rested on the ground next to Celebi. A mane of silver fur floated around her neck. Her deer-like body was coated in shining white fur and bright lights decorated her gold antlers.

Maris gasped and Rosette squinted at the two Pokemon.

“Celebi,” said Xerneas. Her voice echoed in the minds of both trainer and Pokemon. “It has been too long.”

Jirachi floated forward and asked. “Celebi, why hasn’t Shaymin come himself if he wanted peace?”

Celebi looked aside and sighed. “Shaymin has allowed himself to be sealed.”

Deck plopped onto his tail and turned to Violette. "What does he mean, sealed?" he asked.

Violette crossed her arms around her chest, hunched her shoulders, and frowned. "Maybe he's like those birds were before the riots," she said.

"I don't like what Shaymin's disappearance could mean for the Realms," said Rosette.

"Between the former triarchy and the farmers, Shaymin vanishing could be a disaster," whispered Maris.

"And with the attack on Suicune and the war in Thorund Wilds, Queen Camilla is the only leader with a solution right now," said Rosette.

"You don't think her business in Lenx could go poorly if word got out that Shaymin was gone?"

"None of us thought Queen Lucretia would go to war."

“He wanted me to come in his place and ask you to help begin the Peace Accords. The Birds of Destruction and Beasts of Purity are at war, and the mortals have been drawn to fight as well. I have plans to summon more of the mortal leaders to aid us, but I need your help to make bring peace.”

Both Pokemon looked intently at Celebi.
