Description
Had to make a reference of her for myself for a mini comic that wrote for her and her brother. Always knew what she looked like but had to get some outfit ideas down. Will probably revise again but at least it's something to go off of.Edit The white/blue/brown dress on the left has since been given to SavageFrog to use as I didn't think it worked for the character. Character sheet is pending update.

interesting.
this is a great reference sheet, with good poses, nice different clothing choices, and it also depicts some cool different hairstyles of the girl.
the medieval lettering/old page texture to the background adds to the epiness, and the close up protraits of the girl were good, both the ''front-close up'', and the '''side-face''. they were great.
do you draw knights like me as well?
be reasonable!

She sure is cute. Outfit 3 is probably my favorite.

Wow, I'm so jealous of all the little details you put into clothing! That's a skill I have yet to master. Great job as always! Glad I stumbled across your work, it will give me my own inspiration.

Honestly it's something I'm still learning as well. Following lots of fashion blogs (especially historical ones) on tumblr if you have one helps build up a sort of data bank in your imagination for basic design elements that you can frakenstein together to create something a little new (and or fantasy-ish). Then googling some fabric and textile patterns for ideas like "floral", "geometric", "celtic" helps put it all together.

It's difficult to have the patience for some things, currently, since I am in my final stretch of university. The most detailed character clothing I have concocted doesn't look detailed at all compared to your works. I guess maybe it's also related to the fact that some of my characters are those I would be drawing over and over, especially those related to a comic I want to work on, so sometimes there is a limit to how much detail I can put into a character's design. ._.

I understand. I struggle to find much time for art myself between work and classes. I think it's just a matter of finding a balance that works for you. (And the character personalty as well.) I intend to draw these characters over and over for comics too, but I just happen to really like drawing detail. As long as I can design one solid reference and not need to change it later, It's not so time consuming that it becomes a hindrance. That said, this is probably about as detailed as I'm willing to go concerning consecutive art. If it were a one time illustration I'd probably put in more.

For the name (Dakota Callahan), the font is called 'Celtic Knots' and the font for the rest of the text is called 'Dungeon'.

No problem. I got the fonts from these two sites, there's more cool fonts like them.

And thanks! I like to give each of my characters a little something more to distinguish between them. Plus I just like them to look more like average people to make them more believable.

Most of my characters just look like the most generic person possible. I've not practiced any other way of making them yet.Β

I find it helps if you imagine what they may look like if they were real life people, then draw that back in your style.

I don't really think of my characters visually. They are a collective of the things they've said and done rather than a face. Good for writing, not so much for drawing.Β
