No problem~ I don't have PS, so I had to figure out how to do it with SAI.

Mkay.
In SAI, you have tree tools you can use to select. You have the Wand, The Lasso, and a Selection Pen. Using the Wand, click outside your lines. If there are spots outside your lines that aren't selected (corners of hair and such)use the Selection Pen to fill those in. Once you have all of the area you want to NOT COLOR, invert the selection.

Ohh, and if you press shift while using the Lasso tool you can add to the selection you already have :3

Oh and one more thing - what brush do you use for most of the basic shading?

Airbrush~ I actually just use that, the pen/pencil tool, and the blur tool (set on soft) for almost all my work.
