Description I've told a few people this stuff already, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to post a quick thing for anyone else who's interested, since I had to hunt down this information piecemeal when I was first starting out. :>

For peeps who are new to sai, this is a good video for learning the basic functions:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcjepT… Pretty much all of the stuff that I use on a regular basis is explained here.

(Also, this tutorial assumes you're using a tablet. If you don't have a tablet for art, you should really try to get your hands on one if at all possible.)

thank you! this was very helpful! I love pixel art and i have been looking for videos and tutorials on how to make pixel art using PaintTool sai, but nothing really helpful as to what I was looking for came up. i ended up here a few searches later, and I am now ready to make some pixel art! Thanks again!

ah, I didn't know you could smooth the binary brush. That's useful stuff!

definitely! it's much easier than my previous pixel lineart method of just scribblesketching my lines and then nibbling away the excess with my eraser like some kind of pixel sculptor

glad to help! and size depends on exactly what you want to make, but I tend to do a lot of stuff in a 150x150 square because that's the max size something can be on DA and still display animation in the thumbnail without needing a preview.Β

You are a god among men.

I have always wanted to start and try pixel art, but every time I attempt, I get depressed and quit.

LOL TY and yeah, it kind of depends on your personality, some people can't stand the fussiness of pixels and for some people it just clicksΒ
