Description This past weekend, my family and I decided to take Josh on a day trip to Vancouver BC (Canada) and we visited the Capilano suspension bridge. We were on our way back over the bridge to the gift shop and I decided that I wanted a perspective photo of the bridge. Josh had already started walking over it, so I took the photo with him, thinking I could always edit him out if I needed to. Best thing was that when I looked at the photo, I found that it was much better with him in it than without. I scaled it to grey, boosted the whites and darkened the blacks a bit, and added negative space to enhance the visible area. I'm happy- mostly because Josh likes it.

Thank you! It always amazes me how much deeper it looks than it did IRL. There's just something so powerful about it, really. Go black and white photography.

LEGENDS! It's fantastic. But would look better, in my opinion if it were rounded at the top.

Rounded? Please do explain.

And thank you.

I mean... see how it's somewhat squared at the top where the sun is? I think it'd look better... rounded. Ha if you don't get what I mean nevermind about it. It's good.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I agree that the transition there between photo and border is slightly harsh, but I can't really get rid of any of the white space. Thank you though!

hey. this picture is neat! i love the bridge and how it seems as if it would never end but go further in eternity.. and the person yould walk and walk and walk... the perspective it great. it looks so small. like in a wonderworld. but in a positiv way. the black and white makes it mysterious in a way, like you don't know how the way will look like and what will happen while walking on it. ver well done!
it......

One of the best things about this is how the darkness seems to be closing in around him, but at the end of the bridge there is a bright light that seems to be guiding him.
There's also a lot of texture to it because of the trees..

...And now that I can finally do full view, the shoe prints left behind on the bridge just add to the greatness of this picture.

The..er..layout is also perfect (can't think of the right word right now ><. You didn't end up tilting or being a little off center (my pictures with the best intentions usually turn out a little off center or crooked. Arg.)

Nice job.

I think you're thinking composition. No big deal- I do that a lot, and I can never think of the word I want until I don't need it anymore, no matter how much I try. Sad isn't it?

Thank you!

awsome shot, a few have commented on the white at the top, and ~ArtlessHmmmm commented that the person looks like a ghost

personally I think these two combinations work really well together, added with the perspective, he Does look like a spirit or ghost, finally heading home . . .

might not have been an intentional effect on your part, but that was the first thing I thought of

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SqueakingShoeless In reply to stormdancerr [2005-10-10 23:58:52 +0000 UTC]

Josh thought it was odd that you commented in a sort of religious way. Just thought I'd pass it on.

Thank you very much! It wasn't intentional at all, but if that's how you see it, then hey, I'm just flattered that you like it.

Strangely enough, that actually does fit. I dunno why either. Anyway, this is a lovely photograph. Hopeful in its own way. I dig it.

i came across this photo and happen to like it a lot, if you want to mess around in photoshop to get rid of some of the white, you can use the clone tool with a faded brush and clone the trees right bellow the white space, if done carefully, it could work out

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SqueakingShoeless In reply to thellamashow [2005-10-10 23:53:30 +0000 UTC]

Hehe I know, but I really prefer it this way actually. The stark contrast and light dynamic really help to bring out the eye movement in this, so I think I'd rather leave it. As they say, why fix what ain't broke?

its...it makes it seem like your head is being pinched, but not quite, like following the lines makes you kinda travel into it, it's hypnotic-like...it's pretty awesome!

Hehe yeah, thatΒ΄s kinda what I was going for. That whole "pinched" feeling is good for focus when the more peripheral regions are relatively busy, and it's more likely that your attention won't be diverted. Thanks.
