Sorry I been such a flake lately. Really I been sorta out of it since like Mayish or so it feels. Real life's been hectic. Two jobs over the summer and now school's back in. Y'know how it goes.Anyway, thanks for sticking around. Hopefully, I'll get everything together soon and be back with some good stuff.
In the meantime, enjoy these sketchy designs for Helga and Arnold: Fifth Grade Edition.
They're a couple now and it's a bit awkward, because they still aren't always sure how to talk to one another. Also Helga is still sort of a creep, but Arnold finds it somewhat endearing. They like, never kiss, because they are still only ten and like, ten year olds constantly making out is weird.
But there's this running gag of Arnold kissing Helga's cheek when he's thrilled with her. It's like a really rushed, happy: "OMG HELGA YOU ARE AMAZING OMG *KISSES*!!!" And then she gets this goofy look on her face and faints/melts/swoons. Comedy, y'know.
Oh and there's an older Rhonda in the corner. Honestly the kids don't change THAT much. It's only a years difference. I think some of the girls might be starting to um... develop. But the boys should be relatively unchanged. Everyone's just a little taller. But Arnold's still shorter than Helga.
EDIT: OH AND HELGA GOT HER EARS PIERCED. BIG CHANGES YOU GUYS I'M SERIOUS.

In my fics and drawings, I usually keep Arnold shorter than Helga even as adults.

Once they're all grown, I like to make him taller than her, but usually I keep him shorter for a long while.

I wish you could do a Arnold growing up just like Helga's. I'm not very fond of the sweatdress though, but I like the fact its some piece of her!
Oh I love how somehow you draw Arnold always playing air guitar! He looks awesome but I miss his hair being up. But I still imagine his hair like that though cause the way he is shown growing up.
Im laughing on the inside cause he is still shorter than Helga and at the bottom he drawn kissing her on the cheek! He technacly have hold on to her shoulders or something!

I like, rediscovered Hey Arnold! Sitting on my hard-drive last week and have been and a nice stroll down memory lane.
It made me remember Helga/Arnold (yes, Helga tops) was one fo my first OTPs (and frankly, one of the few straight ones XD)

I think there's a skirt underneath, though perhaps it shall be the new mystery! First, there was Arnold's kilt - now there is Helga's maybe-skirt!
I think that Wolfgang's gang are aliens. No fifth grade boy really looks like that! They must have all been held back like... forever maybe. Even Harold isn't that big and he's supposed to be like... 13!

Nice character adaptation, especially in regards to the clothing. Also, I like your description of how they would be dealing with the new change in their relationship. Especially the kisses on the cheek.

I like the new clothes. I really enjoy seeing Helga in a little less pink and how Arnold's clothing has gotten a little grungier.
Their relationship would be so ridiculously sweet, but not in a nauseating way. They're nine, so even though Helga LOVES HIM OMG it would still be awkward and cute and slow.

*nods* That's the good thing about their characters. Even though you know that they care for each other, there'll still be some ups and downs, and interest. They're not like other cotton-candy relationships, where as soon as the characters get together the story has ended. A love between the two of them would be merely the next step for them.
And I do like the clothing alterations. They definitely show that they've changed somewhat with age.

They CAN'T be the cotton-candy relationship. Because Helga has too many problems and fears that will always be a part of their relationship. There's always going to be her wondering if she's good enough and him not knowing how to deal with the idol worship. And they're more than just romantic partners, they're friends and enemies and so many other things. I love Helga/Arnold because there's just so many places it can go.

I'm so jealous of how effortlessly (or so it seems) you draw the HA! Characters. Especially Helga. I just can't get her weird head right! xD
They look so insanely adorable. I'm loving Helga's cute pink shoes (she's finally grown into her feet, they're all dainty now xD). "She's awfully sweet, such tiny feet..."

Well, I'm still not perfect at them. Arnold and Gerald and some of the weirder faces are difficult to do. But I am glad that I seem to have a general grasp of most of the characters.
Though, part of that may be due to the fact that it's HA! that got me started drawing. So I'm super sympathetic to these characters and just... ENJOY drawing them. Really, it's a treat for me to draw up these guys.
Also, I should probably write less sometimes. Y'know, let the drawings speak for themselves and all that, but I just love talking about my thoughts on what I draw, because I really do love most of the stuff I draw or at least the ideas behind them.

As far as design goes, I'm a bit iffy about Helga's...sweatshirt...dress *lulz, doesn't know or care about technical terms XD* because I'm so used to pink being the dominant color on her clothes. I think that the orange slip on the bottom looks a bit out of place, too...it would look better pink in my opinion. However, the inversion of colors and new clothing is a neat idea, and I love her little shoes and earrings.
And Arnold is just...cute. He'll possibly stay this way forever and always.
Have people been bugging you about your activity?...Regardless, I completely understand. Feel free to take whatever time you need away from the computer to focus on life; I won't hold it against you.
If we ever saw them hook up, I'm pretty sure Craig would've portrayed their relationship just as you described it. Sweet, somewhat innocent (but...not really), and bound to grow stronger overtime.
Oh, but Rhonda's destined to be prissy for quite a while, until something or someone knocks her off her pedastal.

Originally I had planned on making the sweatshirt pink and the little extra bits orange and then giving her a white skirt, but I decided to just change around the colors a bit more. If I fix these up or use these designs again I might still change the colors.

I love the build up to their relationship, but I'd also be ridiculously interested in seeing them together. They play so well off of one another, and it's such a sweet, yet twisted love. I will forever be in love with Helga and Arnold's love story.
Too true, Rhonda is Miss Priss. But that's what makes her so endearing. That and the whole: 'i'll do the right thing like arnold says, but do it on my own terms haha i'm rhonda wellington-lloyd bitches'
