Description Part I of III series of "Sino-German Soldier"

He is Chiang Wei Guo, son of the then Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek of Nationalist China, During his time in Germany, he participated in the Spanish Civil War as a Panzer commander in the German Condor Legion after completing his training, and then served as a Leutnant commanding a Panzer during the 1938 Anschluss with Austria, and finally, the invasion of Poland. Afterwards, he returned to China and quickly rose through the ranks through his father's connections.

In this photo he is seen wearing a Unteroffizier's Waffenrock. (Contains mature content due to the Hakenkreuz) Photos are courtesy from my buddy RottenfΓΌhrer Gruber [link]

This is strange considering that Hitler was allied with Japan, well since Japan and China are not exactly close. Though it would still be good in the fight against Communism. ^_^

This was before the alliance with Japan. Germany had long military relations with China, it's called the Sino-German Cooperation

That kind of doesn't make sense.. because why would a Chinese person support a racial war for Europeans if he is Asian

You have to read up on the Sino-German Cooperation to understand.. that guy was the son of Chiang Kai-shek.. the President of China at that period of time.. and he was attached to the Heer.

Airforce headdress? You meant my main page pic?

I always wondered if the Germans would accept an asian comrade of theirs in their uniform, very interesting that they allowed him to command their "master race", very cool.

Comrade-Heinrich [2008-06-21 19:03:00 +0000 UTC]

I've always preferred the uniforms of the Republic of China over the People's Republic. Chiang Kai-Shek was a respectable man and a good general but he sucked as a political ruler. Most of the problems that happened in China wasn't really his fault.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

MarkSYNTHESIS In reply to Comrade-Heinrich [2009-01-21 09:03:23 +0000 UTC]

"Respectable" is a relative term. It's hard to think of a man who led the government to massacre tens of thousands of native people (the 228 Incident), who indeed held office over that incident, "respectable".

Of course, it was a time of many leaders committing such atrocities. Chiang by no means was the only one.

This young man is (or was) pretty well known in Taiwan. An unusual part of our history, or perhaps a cultural contribution of Kuomingtang.

On a side note, wasn't he an alleged son of Generalissimo Chang? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Dunno if it was ever proved or not. The whole KMT was very hush-hush about everything following the war, for obvious reasons.

At least, that's what I've heard. Very mafioso-like.

kyuzoaoi [2008-05-09 07:48:23 +0000 UTC]

Come on. Indians are "acceptable" under the Nazis, but the Gypsies, though technically Aryans, too, were exterminated for allegedly "betraying" the Nazi ideal.

In any case, that was true. If you go to archives of Chinese soldiers in the 1930s, notice that they are wearing German-style helmets. Germany once trained the forces of Chiang Kaishek, and even in the Qing Dynasty, many German soldiers assisted Chinese soldiers and trained them.

A chinese-german soldier?!
Now that is very odd.
I mean... With the 3rd Reich and its politic of "The aryan race is the top" this photo initially made me think about a photo-montage... It's too unbelievable.
Oh well you know... "If you want to be a top soldier... join the german army!"

I find this photo as a weird but still unique piece of history. It's nice to see someone willing to keep that alive.

Plus, if you pay careful attention to his uniform, he isn't a part of the SS, he's just a Soldier. The SS wore the red armband with the swastika. Plus the SS wore a skull on their service cap. I am not shocked that an Asian served in the German Army, I am schoked that a Chinese did. Since WWII the Germans were allies with Japan, and Japan was trying to conquer China.

You have to remember too, Hitler felt that Jews and Gypsies were unclean, or Mud people because they were at that time people without a country and leaches of the Aryan race. Meaning that they left their ancestrial homeland to Europe to in a sense, mooch off the government. The irony is that Hitler himself was half Austrian and half Jew. He wasn't even German... And the fact that mose Germans hated him and some even made attempts on few different occasions to assasinate him.

lateralus1939 In reply to ShadowSoldier79 [2011-02-02 03:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Wrong. Not all SS wore the skull on their cap, that is only one branch of what was the SS. Also not all SS wore a swastika, only party members. Not soldiers. Hitler wasn't hated by the germans of Nazi Germany, he was voted into power by them. They loved him, he got the country out of depression and gave them back their pride....for the time being. Also, he was Austrian like you said but lived on the border and choose to be german. Austria and Germany were allies for hundreds of years and many germans were half Austrian.

This guy served with the German army before Nazi Germany and The Empire Of Japan signed the Pack of Steel with Italy. So this guy was gone by the time Japan invaded China. China and Russia helped the Germans in the invasion of Poland. Nazi Germany used many different people for their advancement and turned on them when it suited them best.

Therefore making your comment about how your shocked by it makes you just seem stupid. So learn your facts before commenting and making people that read them dumber.

You lie. Hitler was not a jew, that is nothing but stupid propaganda.

And Germans hating Hitler.... Are you drinking crack thea or something? They (and many non Germans) believed in National Socialism and their leader Adolf Hitler till the bitter end. And today more and more people find the truth about NS and the total of followers keeps growing once again.

If you can't accept it and have to spread pathetic lies; that is saying alot about you.

ps. The Waffen SS had like 600.000 non Germans in it (on 1 million total). Some 80.000 Russians Waffen ss soldiers; if you can believe it (and you better do it).

Weird... I thought Indians were fighting with the british allieds in Italy. Hmmm... They probably were anti-UK indians (Or hinduans) who got promises from Germany that India would gain Independence from Britain once they were defeated (Which... never happened )

But nahhhh... that kind of facts are destined to be erased... In another 60 years such thing as "Chinese or Indians were in the german SS" are going to be considered lies or simply forgotten.
Even I have problems to believe that kind of information... It's almost like if it were destined to improve the image of the SS (Which is an organization that I deeply hate). Sorry Oschawolf.

You obviously havn't heard about the Indian National Army. An indian force allied with Japan and Nazi Germany wich fought the allies in many diffirent battles, including the Burma Campaign.

It's main goal was to liberate India from British rule. After the war, many of it's members joined the Indian Independence movement.
