I've got plans to finish most of these quick sketches for a future sketchbook like project but I'm still working on a ton of other stuff so it's on the backburner for now.

Wow, I almost forgot I requested this! She looks great! If I find the time I'll have to slap some colors on this one.

It has been some time since the request, hasn't it? Roll's actually been done for a bit but I just hadn't had the time to scan and upload her or some of the other sketches that are done.
If you have a chance I'd love to see your colors on this piece since you've got some groovy coloring skill that would make it sizzle!

I think I'll give that a go. I haven't done much in-depth coloring for a while, and I did just get through finals. I think I'm going to start on this tomorrow night!

Inked and posted, which credits of course. ^__^ Always a pleasure to ink your work.

Very nice! You never fail to push my crappy pencils into the realm of cool with your inks. Someday soon we gotta hook up and work on something more substantial together, if you're game of course.

Something seems almost feline about her nose...

stalk In reply to NuclearConvoy [2009-08-25 07:48:28 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm, could be the little highlight I placed on the top of her nose to give her a more "child-like" look or the pronounced philtrum I like to give my characters. Hope it doesn't ruin the image too much for ya.

No, doesnt ruin it. But it is a touch off putting.

D'you use reference or does this all come straight outta your head? I can pull it off sometimes, but I still find myself scrambling for a starting point a lot of the time ...

This kind of pose is pretty straight-forward and simple so no ref needed. Usually if I'm trying out something wacky usually from a point-of-view rather than just a standard pose I try and find some kind of ref. Most of the time though I just do rough layouts of what I want to see and go from there once I settle on a pose I like.

Cool. Where d'you usually go for your ref material?

stalk In reply to Grigori77 [2009-08-24 21:16:01 +0000 UTC]
Pretty much anywhere really. Magazines, online, photos-basically anywhere I can see an idea of what I'm trying to do with a figure. I keep a reference file filled with stuff I've clipped from different magazines ranging from city shots to articles of clothing for inspirataion or direction. I also buy alot of those reference books especially of weapons and military tech like vehicles and uniforms. You can usually find those pretty cheap online on Amazon.com or if you have a bookstore with a reduced sale section.

Yeah, I got some pretty good books on weaponry - see if you can find a book called "Weapon - a Visual History of Arms and Armour" (consultant editor: Richard Holmes) from DK Press. It was produced in association with the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, which is kinda like the Northern equivalent of the Tower of London. It's CHOCKA with cool weaponry, but more than that it also present the HISTORY of this stuff, and you can see the progression over time. It's a FANTASTIC book, I'd definitely recommend it for anyone with serious reference needs. It's a big one too, proper coffee table size.

Cool, you're welcome. I need to get myself a new copy too ... I've only had it a few years but it gets thumbed through so much it's kinda falling apart a little bit ...

Nice work! I like how you kept the basic style of her but added in your own elements and made it your own. Excellent work! Very well done!

Her design is very simple so all I did was try to enhance her look through character. I'm glad the pose helped to define her a bit more.
Did you get my response to your Note? I've been having some problems with DA bouncing back responses, comments, and Notes lately so I was just wondering.

I think you did a good job of giving it a slight update.
I never got it, man. Re-send it?
