When I try to varnish them with some nail lacquer .. it just make the paper ugly ..
And it doesn't really work .. how come ?

It could be that your paper is especially porous, which would make the colors change when you try to varnish it. Also, your nail lacquer might be a "hard finish" kind instead of normal, which will make the paper stiff and crackly--always use the really cheap stuff. Unfortunately it really depends on your paper--you could try using different kinds and see what works best for you. Alternatively you could invest in an actual paper varnish instead of nail polish. It's more expensive but I like the results.

Thank you for the answer ..
By cheap, do you mean the less expensive ?
And I wanted to buy a paper varnish, but I live in Quebec and I really don't know where to buy it..

starrystar In reply to Zebraa [2010-08-29 21:07:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I mean less expensive. Always test a little varnish on the paper you want to use before folding, to see how they will interact (whether or not the polish will make the paper ugly). If you really want a paper varnish, they are at most craft stores or you can get them online, but really the nail lacquer should work just fine if you use the right paper. You should experiment and see what works best. I'm sorry if I am not especially clear ^_^;;

The shocked crane when it was stabbed was hilarious. This seems to be a good way to show how you can apply this to other origami products to get jewelry too.

Absolutely! And thanks! ;

If I could make nice-looking stars that would be my next step. Probably anything that you can make very small would work.

starrystar In reply to zantetsuren [2009-09-19 02:59:46 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the size of your crane! Enough to make a circle on both sides, with not too much left over.

I found some old metallic paper in my room and cut some squares out. I now have enough cranes to make three pairs of earrings with six cranes per pair. ^-^

They're surprisingly easy to make, considering how small they are. Fun to make, too. x3

starrystar In reply to zantetsuren [2009-09-20 22:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Be careful if you're using six that they aren't too long. My first pair hung a bit low and when I turned my head I tore the last one off!! It's easy enough to fix, though, once you know how they're built. I really want to seem 'em when you're done!!

zantetsuren In reply to starrystar [2009-09-23 20:44:51 +0000 UTC]

I'm just doing them like in the photos you've posted, three cranes per earring. o3o

I'm having so much fun making these. I'll probably end up making a pair for basically every girl I know. xD
