Description Here we go again. 18"x24" oil on high quality artist paper mounted on foam core.
This is probably the most out there painting I've done at this size. About 140 hrs.
There's so much in this, has all good turns(views from any position), hundreds of characters.
View, if you can, well away from your moniter. I don't expect more then 20/30% to be seen, but such is posting on the net. Hope you like it. Enjoy.

thank you very much. I've never thought about using Sharpies for the paintings in my gallery, but you've inspired me to create some work with them.

You're very welcome! My pleasure. I def look forward to seeing some Sharpie works from you.

Do you think Sharpie works would sell. You know the art world and what they feel about certain art mediums. You know you could spray these with a finish like semi-gloss,gloss. Non yellowing of course. I wonder how they'd work on a smooth canvas? Would the tip go bad real fast? I don't know

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

graffitica In reply to Stepbeyond [2012-02-10 18:45:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think they would. I just haven't found a solid way to get my name and art out there. My schedule is so hectic and that doesn't help. I don't think the art world has an issue with certain mediums, I think it's all about the niche you present it to and the economy is pretty crappy for artists right now. My work is done on plain paper, so I can't really seal it. I've seen artists use Sharpies on Bristol board and types of canvas in mixed media pieces. If you know how to use a Sharpie well, you can make them last a long time and I don't ever have an issue with the tips.

great comment and good to know. Have you ever worked with Prismcolor artist markers. They have one thin point on one end and a larger one on the other. I don't think they bleed through paper or bleed out with lines as Sharpie's do, however, I like the rich and assorted colors and will get bsome this week. Prismcolor also has many colors, I think more then Sharpie Alot more

graffitica In reply to Stepbeyond [2012-02-13 04:10:37 +0000 UTC]

I had to use Prismas in college and never did care for them. They don't bleed as much, but the bleed of a Sharpie is how I achieve a lot of my shading strokes. I use it to my advantage. I prefer the convenience of them, and the colors are strong and bold....like my personality, lol. I have Sharpies in almost every color made and a lot of specialty and metallic ones as well. They suit me perfectly

Stepbeyond In reply to graffitica [2012-02-14 03:04:19 +0000 UTC]

you sold me. You should be familiar with my gallery enough to know how I work with color. This may work real well for me getting away from the paint pens.
I don't know if it's poster board or something else, but if Sharpies sink into this it would be a gloss finish. I want to try that.
PS There are a few finishes that are made for paper. I would emagine a heavy stock like Bristol would be fine with the finishes they sell for paper. Just have to make sure they're non yellowing. Some companies claim it but only a small few actaually are non yellowing.

graffitica In reply to Stepbeyond [2012-02-14 04:34:10 +0000 UTC]

lol, good...I guess. I really like the flow of your colors. I've never used the paint pens, and I'm a sucker for a matte finish over a glossy any day unless it's photos. I agree that there are not a whole lot of finishes out there that are non-yellowing. I would be so pissed if I had worked 10 hrs on a piece and sealed it and then have it ruined by a finish. I look forward to seeing what you can do with a Sharpie. Your pieces are extremely detailed and intricate, put mine to shame by a mile, lol.

Stepbeyond In reply to graffitica [2012-02-14 21:23:15 +0000 UTC]

yes, I know what you mean about the yellowing. 10hrs? What about the ones you put way more then that. Imagine how I'd feel with the 20 to 100hr. pieces I've done. Between just looking at them and painting.
My art is unique as is yours. I'm going to get to your gallery and I'll tell you what I think, honest.
I've never asked for anyones age before, but if you don't mind how old are you? Why? Because it tells me where your heads at and the art you create + how long are you painting and the creative mind is different as you get older.

graffitica In reply to Stepbeyond [2012-02-14 21:50:09 +0000 UTC]

Longest I ever spent on a piece was about 3 months, but that was many years ago. I've stopped doing graphite work and painting, so my work never takes that long anymore. My life is too hectic for that and plus I don't get enjoyment out of those mediums like I do when I draw with Sharpies.

Honesty is fine by me, I encourage it. Bc at the end of the day if someone likes it fine, if they don't, fine. It's my work and a I like it no matter what someone else says about it. As for my age, I will be 31 in April. I do agree that what I draw now and what I drew when I was younger are much different. Since we're on the topic of age, how old are you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to graffitica [2012-02-14 22:14:14 +0000 UTC]

A very young 59. By that I mean no one takes me for my age. Most people think I'm in my forties, I'll take it
and have the personality of a 30 something person, but the wisdom of being around till now and growing up in the 60ies.lol I think you're a great age for a woman.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

graffitica In reply to Stepbeyond [2012-02-14 22:50:41 +0000 UTC]

lol, no one thinks I'm 30 either. Neither of us come off as the age we are. Thanks for the compliment.

Stepbeyond In reply to graffitica [2012-02-14 23:23:45 +0000 UTC]

anytime. Seems to be true, the expression the new 30 is 50. When I was growing up it seemed that when you hit 30 you were not to be trusted adult. Now it's 50. We just seem younger then our parents were when they were the same age. Know what I mean?
Oh yes, you can pass for eary twenties easily

Stepbeyond In reply to Kisses-of-night [2010-08-03 03:00:33 +0000 UTC]

thanks. You're right about the being worth it. I work very hard on every piece I do. I can honestly say there hasn't been an easy one out of anything I've posted.

Does it surprise you to learn that the morphs were as time consuming and hard to do as much as the conventional paintings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kisses-of-night In reply to Stepbeyond [2010-08-04 13:45:36 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't surprise me actually, because all of your paintings are so very intricate, it must have been difficult to get the morphs just right. They're all amazing though, so it definitely works

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to Kisses-of-night [2010-08-05 03:48:36 +0000 UTC]

you got it. It's very frustrating getting the morphs just right because of the computer. Intense detail.

Kisses-of-night In reply to Stepbeyond [2010-08-05 15:39:44 +0000 UTC]

I've had a go at playing around with some of my paintings on the computer, and you're right, it's a lot harder than people think, and very time consuming! It's difficult to get it just right, without overdoing it.

Stepbeyond In reply to Kisses-of-night [2010-08-06 00:52:59 +0000 UTC]

you hit the nail on the head. It demands perfection to get exactly what you want from shading to form.

I happen to love this one. It's so rich, has so much unusual and nice things in it. It's the whole composition of it. Thank you for the nice comment I thought you had seen this piece. I guess not.
