I'm so excited that you really get it. You don't realize that most of my creations are the same. Look in my gallery. They all take time to really see what's going on. Discovery Pipe Dreams can be turned anyway you want for 4 different paintings. In the depts can freak you out. Then, turn it upside down for a totally different view. They all take seeing them over and over. Truth is, they are the type of pieces that have to be owned. I have an art rep now and she's telling me to close my store. Everyone's last chance to get them here, then I will take orders and use my printers. They won't be as cheap as DA sells them for.

This is beautiful. I love the movement of the lines, and I feel like every time I look at this I will see something different. Absolutely wonderful.

Thank you very much . What that is is "A step beyond" mirrored 3 times of itself. When I was creating it I never thought of mirroring it, but when I put it against the mirror I just knew I had to do it. In my gallery under mirror images you'll see all my work that just mirrored beautifully without any planning. I see some mirrored work on DA that you can see were planned to mirror. I couldn't have done a better job with the mirror images simply by not even thinking about it. I, myself, only realized how well many of them were mirrored after about 2 or 3 years!! I mean, I just never thought of it.
In my opinion, the unplanned ones have something the planned ones do not have.

i know!i've done that mirror-effect in some of my older abstract drawings and i loved it too!i enjoyed how different can be a piece of art when trying to mirror it a bit differently each time!it's a very interesting experiment!

yes. Many of mine made great mirrors even though I never planned them to be

the original 18"x24" was done with oil based paint pens on canvas. Ths is a 4 section mirror of itself turned right. It was mirrored from from the work "A Step Beyond"

Wow. Excellent piece. I can only imagine the work that went into this. It certainly turned out as something that can be looked at for hours.

Stepbeyond In reply to kjsmithsea [2008-04-09 04:59:31 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much.
Yes they all, most of the paintings were time consuming (100 to 160hrs) and many dicisions which can be madening because they are improvised abstract or whatever they are. I was in tile work for 20 years, and it's evident in these. Like precise chaos. One woman who saw my work in an art store said "your work reminds me of an Escher on crack" lol

No, I don't do drugs . Most of these need a long time. I just saw 4 more images in something I did 2 years ago, Discovery. In a way, they just don't end. Good for thinking, just sitting back relaxing.

Stepbeyond In reply to AshleyCeleste [2007-11-30 05:42:02 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much. Most of my work can be looked at for months. They reveal themselves more and more. They are created that way. Hard for the brain to make sense of it all in 5 minutes--takes time. My work loses the real magic on net. They are so much more then you can ever see here. It's very frustrating for me, but what chice do I have.

Look at some of the stand alone pieces---some of the loaded black and whites on page 2. They are just to full of things, like a puzzle I'd say. They are a thinking persons art, and you just don't have the time or proper view to do it here.

lauracarter [2007-11-27 19:40:29 +0000 UTC]

I wish I could see this and all your work in person, I bet from different angles it creates different moods. I wonder to myself, where do you start when you start one of your paintings.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to lauracarter [2007-11-28 03:35:27 +0000 UTC]

One, I start where I start. As it forms I have to make many decisions. Most of them need months to see---I mean really see. I can't tell you how frustrating it is for me to post such works on net. The magic of these will not be seen on net, and I surely don't expect people to look at them day after day for months---but that's the way they really come to life.

I see things in my work a year after I completed it---and your so right---different angles is another trip---then the lighting! As the light lowers and depending how far back you are all the illussions come out. Then you have (usually---2 to 4 views) So, my work is really clobbered here.

I've told a few people that know me on da for some time that I might stop posting. Every time is the same thing---In the Depts/Discover/ Mad Man Sax/ Horn Birds/ Passion Fish etc---all the same thing clobbered lol

You may have noticed I talk quite a bit. Yes, a talker and not a texter lol I've never been a big fan of this system of communication---too much work

I want to thank you for your observation. Few have said that to me---but looking at your work I know you have the eyes.

I also want to thank you for the friend/dev watch. Like your style Laura. Went through your gallery and will again. I believe you will find many pieces that interest you in my gallery---I see where your coming from with your own art. Althoiugh styalistically very different---we have a few things in common.

lauracarter In reply to Stepbeyond [2007-11-28 16:47:07 +0000 UTC]

I don't always like to communicate via the internet either. I'm going to take a wild guess that you are not in your 20's. I'm 36 and it took me awhile to warm up to the whole internet thing. Although it is pretty cool. How else could I talk to an interesting artist from another country!

I have a wide range of interests when it comes to art, I spent 11 years as the owner of a custom picture framing shop/gallery and saw so many different styles over the years. I have viewed really really bad art that actually sells to brilliant art that the average person just doesn't "get". I've acquired quite a collection over the years and I tell you if I could someday have one ounce of the talent that hangs on my own walls I will have achieved something. I love deviant art because I have missed viewing all the art. I think your style is wonderful and I'm telling you with my years of art selling experience that I would have struggled to keep yours hanging on the wall as I am positive they would have sold fast. There is definately a market out there for your art as I am sure you have already discovered.

Thank you for all the favourites and wonderful comments, as well as the friend add. I can't wait to see more of your art! (Hoping you post more)

lol That's wonderful about the way you feel about talking on the net. I could have guessed it. No, I'm not 20 something haha but I have a few years on you---well--more then a few lol

I have so much more to tell you, ask you---I'll get back to you after I answer these messages.

How did you get such a large piece onto the computer? I have to take pictures of mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to OneCreativePisce [2007-10-08 06:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Sure--I do too (take photo's) for the large ones. I'm currently waiting to get my originals back from a scanning service. One piece is is 30"x30". It's being scanned directly. They are absolutely awesome. So far it has cost me about 450.00 for the # of originals I had scanned. It's worth it. My custoomers are going to get the best print, giclee possible.

Now about the one you viewed--this was scanned into a large format scanner. Thge original A Step Beyond. It's awesome by itself, but this piece is a 3 way mirror of itself. Done in comp of course after the scan and filed.

Feel free to hit me back if you have any questions

Thank you so much. This is one of my favorites. It has hundreds of characters--it's such a cool piece---how many you see? A few haha BTW turn it upside down--side ways etc. It just doesn't end --the individual characters I mean. Like that high heel on the bottom left corner with the red lips

KitsuneJM [2007-09-02 04:29:42 +0000 UTC]

how do you do these? do you have something in mind when you make these or you just draw random lines and shapes and then position it in the ways that look best to you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to KitsuneJM [2007-09-02 06:24:03 +0000 UTC]

you got it. They are all improvised from the first line. I do have to make tons of decisions as they are progressing, but yes, none are planned in any way.

It amazes even me how different they all are. Yes, the style is there, but the piece is so different from the last one.
