Description Time consuming and difficult. There was nothing easy about this one. Seeing it on the comp it took quite a flop---but I hope you enjoy this one. There's no rotations in this---one view was more then enough to deal with lol.

The entire canvas 18X24" was done with oil based paint pens. Average from 5 to 20 coats in some areas. Almost every line was thought out because my work, as u guys know, is all connected.
The sky and smoke were done with acrylics.

Don't let the larger images fool you---there's more there then the obvious as you all know my style. Forget about seeing it all---that would take multiple viewings and much more time then I expect any of you to spend on it---and I fully understand that. Wide area viewing is recommended to catch the more sneaky images. : )

Anyway---hope you like and enjoy the imagery as much as I did while working on it when it wasn't torturing me. : )

yes, there is a few flying colored birds. The main gigantic beast is a mechanical and living bird. Notice the steam coming out of it's beak. That does have alot of motion. Some very cool characters in there too. See the character on the motorcycle? The singing or screaming pipe man. I love the big orange nosed guy with the glasses. lol
My goodness, there must be 20 coats of paint on every square inch of that. It's an 18X24 canvas painting. That one took about 140 hrs. Thanks for the comment and view on that one

I had noticed the steam coming out of it's beak but not the character on the motorcycle ^^ I love the fact that it's that complex, there are so many characters that can't be seen at first sight ^^

yes, I just finished a comment to you about that. There's no turns in Flight heavy, but there's still about 40 imaqgtes in that painting, probably more.

None of them will give you very much. They are revealed over time. It's really fun. You just see a small amont of the largest images at first, it takes every day repeated views over time. I say this sincerely. My work you have to own for it to reveal itself to you. That's just the way it is.

I see things after a year, and I created the thing I look at Mr Lonely from another angle and all these other things pop out. Change lighting, the distance you view it. Now you get allussions, cross sections coming togeter, lights coming out and the darks dissapear.

This whole thing with my work is frustrating, it really is.

Then most of mine can be viewed every way, most, because of my style, mirror so well, and on and on. They make me nervous. Each one is so much and I'm lucky if anyone sees 20 or 30% of what's in them. Like I said. Got to get my work out in the live public.

Right now I have 6 pieces displayed locally.

I'm doing an album cover for a Christian Rock band.

I should have my work in Brooklyn, the city, etc.

I am in NY Not Manhattan---about 30 minutes from there.

That's a whole nother story. I'm sorry if I talk too much. Just so much going on, and the art, now I'll be doing something else--art and business related, but like College for the next year.

Yes, dear Dianae, I know busy, I certainly do.
Oh yes, the motorcycle guy is there. lol Look at Discovery--Biker Bird. That's the upside down view of Discovery-Pipe Dreams. You viewed Professor which is the right turn of Discovery- Pipe Dreams

See what I mean about these things? hahaha Hard to explain how to even look at it

Don't worry, you don't talk too much, I'm just busy as hell at the moment so I'm having a hard time answering all the comments I'm receiving every day....

I'm slowly discovering other characters in your painting, it's very fun ^^ It reminds me when I was playing hide and seek when I was a kid

I understand, I'm involved in a few things and my heads spinning.

I'm glad you're seeing more characters, and that would continue. The more you just look at them the more that's revealed. Yes, it's real fun for me too when I see all of them as they're being created. Sometimes sit back about 10 feet from your moniter, you'll see more. They are truly fun and worth the sometimes torture they put me through lol

Stepbeyond In reply to ftourini [2007-04-27 06:13:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

I believe you can learn it--patience I mean

I had no choice--I was a tile contractor for 20 years--in which a 16th of an inch could be a big deal. So many things I did and still do in that trade require lots of patience. I work the same way with art.

Maybe if you worked on 2 projects at the same time. I usually don't do it but it may work for you.

Do one which would take less time and one that could take days and weeks. When you have had enough with the more time consuming one change to the other.

Know when to call it a day with the work --and put it where you won't see it--tomorrows another day. Put this in your mind---when it's done it's done--meaning---if it takes days-- another week---another month---a single day--do whatever it takes to do the piece exactly how you want it done.

Who ever said a work has to take X amount of time? Maybe you have a time factor in your head. If after 30 minutes of real quality time you've had enough--go to something else or do something else.

Because of all the years of learning patience I can go for many hrs of intense concentration
and observing my work. It wasn't always like this

A saying that tradesmen are always saying---and I'm sure many others say--do it right the first time. I'm not saying you're not doing your art wrong--but develope the patience you need to get it right in ur eyes.

Another---measure twice---cut once. Instead of coming back to something and saying "oh crap---I knew that was off"--get it the way you want it---the single line---etc---etc

I hope this helps a little

Good luck

Gosh there's so much in this one.

I keep seeing time for some reason - the moving of time, this feeling of rushing of moving forward at a very fast speed. There's indications of materialism, the importance placed upon things that really don't matter and the need to find something more meaningful. A few of the eyes seem somewhat sad, downcast. Perhaps it is a wishing for time to slow it's headlong process and a realisation of what one's life has amounted to (hence the materialism) and a need to find meaning.

I can't help but feel a rushing motion, like when the wind is going past at super speed and you're left still trying desperately to catch your breath.

Really intriguing piece. Very very detailed and lots of visuals!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to jarasing [2006-06-05 04:39:27 +0000 UTC]

ur pretty good---but when you have the time---look again. You're missing some very obvious (spelling?) clues there.

The motion is right on target. That is a part mechanical/part alive bird head in the front. It is a huge bird in flight with all the rest of the characters on board. My God this mind of mine. And yes---it's traveling fast---or at least a good speed.
This is another one pretty loaded with images---no rotations though---just one way viewing. I'll get more into this one with you---ok? This was an emotional one for me as it went along. I hate to admitt it---but this took no less then a 100hrs---sick. It is a deep painting for me and looks so good in person---rich colors and details which get lost on net---but that's old news already. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jarasing In reply to Stepbeyond [2006-06-05 21:58:21 +0000 UTC]

The bird! I remember thinking about the bird in my head - must have forgotten to include that. You see when we get old, we also get a little ditzy - or maybe that's just me. I talk to myself in my head a lot ... now that's just weird!

Anyway yes I saw the large bird in this which gave me the idea of some sort of flight. There's just so much in this piece, my eyes have no idea where to look first.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to jarasing [2006-06-06 04:26:20 +0000 UTC]

lol I know---but at least there's only one view. It's pretty loaded. You know, though, so much of my work is overwhelming---so are they any more image rich then the pen and inks---Pending---etc----hmmmm---probably not.
I'm doing it again Look what is going on in Mr Lonely Face?? And then you turn him upside down lol. Surprise---the creature. But there's a whole lot going on there---and yes---I have my definite interpretation of what that's all about. The title is deceiving in a way---can't go by that. I may change the title in the near future.
I am redoing him on a 30"x30" canvas---pretty much the same with some changes. I did print out the original on that canvas I'm working on with that piece.

I see so many different things in this image. First impression was this was a "hot" one compared to your other art pieces maybe it's just me but there's an erotic feel to this one and lookign beyond the some of the more obvious features here, the tiger, the man, the dog wearing flight goggles or shades. I can't pinpoint it exactly but that's the mood that first struck with this one. A passionate peice.

thank you Bren. Yes--ur right---it has a very erotic feel coz it is . Much of the imagery supports that.

This is one of my favs ---and it does have much going on in it. Under the orange man you'll see a spike shoe--steletto (spelling)

Ok.
I can die happy now.
This is one of those rare works that strikes me in much the same way as food.
When it is delicious, every morsel consumes you while you are consuming it.
Some music is that way.
This particular piece strikes me that way, and I want to eat it.
LOL!
I know.
I sound utterly mad.
Sometimes you devour art while it decours you and it is a cyclic ecstasy for the eyes and heart.
If one is fortunate enough to have such work on ones wall, then the circle of devouring goes round and round and round and round in uneneding appreciation and inspiration.

This is a waaaaaaaaayyyyyy cool piece dude!

Okay, now this one I REALLY looked at. I just sat down and scrolled around until I found things. And the many things that I found! I saw the bear and the horse right away. Those are my favorites! I also caught the tiger peering through the grass plastered on the horse's nose. Nice touch.

You know, your artwork serves as an excellent mental excercise, like solving a crossword puzzle. You have a few big obvious images, which usually draw the viewer's eyes, but there are some many tiny intracasies that everyone misses because they see these two eyes staring at them! In the case of this piece, many eyes. I have to tear myself away from those things and search. After all, you can't miss the forest for the trees!

Oh, and I can appreciate your pains in creating this. I was irritated when I couldn't find the shoe. :uspet: I can't imagine how it has been for you! How do you get the idea of putting things like shoes in your work?

You hit the nail on the head with a few things. Yes---they are like mind and eye excersises---absolutely. Look and study enough pieces like this and your eyes get better and better at seeing in all areas of art.
So? You didn't see that silly black shoe? lol---look at orange face with the glasses. His neck goes into the top of it---let ur eyes see the black---it's a stalletto---heel---spike---front---etc.

good question. I have an overactive imagination lol---I'm a night owl so it's quite---good reflective time. Well--not anymore with da lol Now I'm here at night.

Anyway---it's a way of seeing--it developes more and more. I'm talking about something alittle different then the artist eyes---the way we see things. I see alittle deeper in a the abstract area--I believe all the good abstract artist have certain seeing abilities for that medium. I usually see the next image before it's on the canvas. Remember---we're talking about abstract/sureal/etc. As you keep doing them--like anything else---you see all these things that at times can be frustrating because you have to make decisions on what goes---doesn't---sacrifice one part of an image for another one---all thaty stuff ; )

some times it can drive you nuts---really. Once a work goes past a certain point the images just keep jumping out at you. The problem of course--is that anything you touch can alter so much---especially ones with 3 and 4 rotations. So it's great for art---but the keener you see and pull things out of everything the more decisions you have to make---u know where I'm coming from.

6BandBlackInk [2006-04-27 17:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Interesting new path, to move away from rotations when so much of your work hads used them must have been a big step. But new things are always good.
I can see exactly why it almost killed you, but it was well worth it. This has a more mechanical feel to some of your others, and I feel sure that this was intentional.
Even though this is quite a large piece and has taken a long time, it feels like a magnified image of something much larger, your imagination could run riot.
Another great piece complete!

Always love your take on my work. You hit the nail on the head most of the time. Yes---the intentional mechanical feel. Actually---couldn't do this piece much different. Everything is so linked together that although it would look like mayhem to some--- is actually very precice in many areas.

Favor---look at this again---look deep---file---look again---there's so much there you probably didn't see. Read the comments I made to others on the comment page of that deviation. You are the guy that see's into my work more then most---so I'd appreciate it---just alittle more time---I'll owe you one ---when you have the time of course.

yes you did.

Now---stretch your seeing---can you picture him riding a scooter? Wearing a scarf blowing behind his neck? The big red lips on the bottom could be one wheel---the bears nose or eye the other wheel---try to see the entire area---from the orange face---to the bottom lips---to the back to the mechanical beak of the other bird---put it all together in ur seeing---got it?

Now lol Take the left eye of the woman---and the left red eye of the of the pipe man---whatever : ) Now put those 2 eyes together with the orange man's mouth---then the same 2 eyes with the big red lips on the bottom of the painting---see it? One more---under the orange face is a black stalletto high heel shoe.
I'm I creating art or designed puzzles ? :rof: I do enjoy these characters so much I want to share them---but it would take time and multiple viewings to have certain images appear---that's why I pointed out a few---u might have seen them already : )
