Description Uh-oh. I'm falling in love with drawing snowflakes. Here's another one - and at the time I'm writing this, a third one is mostly drawn!

As it turns out, multitasking these and Just Cause  works pretty well; when you're drawing at print resolution, each stroke can take a while to load, so I work on comic panels while I wait.

This pattern is available on coffee mugs, blankets, backpacks and more in my Society6 store  and my RedBubble store . You can see some examples of the available products here:  www.deviantart.com/stephobrien…

I just love the pattern. I was drawn to it immediately when a friend showed it to me. It feels as if it is calling out to me to bring out inspirations from my head. Love it

Hello !

I'm from , more specifically the weekly comment project.

That’s quite a beautiful pattern! And the color fits it perfectly!
I'm not sure how much i can help with this comment, seeing as i normally comment on traditional pieces, but lets give it a try!
As i said two lines up the colors are perfect, the shading in it, gives deep to the middle and a more fragile vibe to the borders that in itself already contributes a lot for the realistic feel.
The patter is simply beautiful! I have no idea of what i can add to it.
Now about the background! That’s something i actually have an idea to make this piece even better! While the simpler background you went with does a great job at not taking the attention from the Snowflakes patter, it also doesn't compliment it very well.

I mean it like this : the background here does both very well. It is going to take more work to make a BG for this one, seeing as it doesn't have the frozen snowflake vibe to it. But if you thought of this one more on the lines of a magic circle i think it could work, like this is what happens when someone uses an specific magic or ability, like Doctor Stranges circles, going for that style you could add layers of pulsating energy in different shades of your main, pink in this case, and add the stars in a pinkish red color or even exchange them for sparks ! You can also use the wave like pattern in this but make it a bit larger and have various overlapping different shades of pink!

You could also go the kaleidoscopic route, but i think it would take away from the main focus here which should 100% be the patter you created, maybe there is a away to not take the attention away from it, like using the central space, like in this one, for a full version of the pattern and adding other versions on free space in a way that make it look like it fits together like a puzzle, but i'm not sure it would work to be honest.

Hope to have helped a bit, if you have any specific question about what i said up there feel free to ask! I'm not sure that i expressed myself that well, i'm pretty sure i used the word pattern far to much in some phases but hey! I think i got some stuff across, maybe, possible....

So overall i really like it and would love to see more

English is not my first language so sorry if i made any mistakes here, i do try to use word to correct most of them but some do scape from time to time, and if you have any doubts feel free to ask me or other members of the Project Comment community!

Thank you so much for the feedback and advice. Using circles like the ones in Dr. Strange for a background is a cool idea - I should use that for one of my future snowflakes! And I can see how it would complement a snowflake like this in that both the snowflake and the circles are hard-edged, but with delicate patterns inside.

To help me have a better idea of what to avoid in the future, could you share your thoughts on why you think this background does not complement the pattern? The more specific you can be, the better - but only if you're willing.

Thanks!

Of course!

Black is a great way to show the finer details in your snowflake since the main color is pretty much on the other side of the color hue. That said black doesn't tend to compliment soft bright colors, it is mostly used for darker tones or to show contrast. If you exchange it for a much darker shade of purple and then made the background details in pink and light purple, they would pop more and seem to fit better.
There is also the overall style of the piece to take in account, like the one that i linked earlier, it's a snowflake, in shades of white and blue over a frozen background so it all fits together. Both colors are ones you would associate with frost and snow and the pattern on it reinforce that perception.
Now it is harder to do it with a pattern that the viewer does not have an already pre establish knowledge of, but when you look just at the patter what do you feel and what do you want to pass to your viewer? I would gees a calm and lovely environment (going by the fact that it makes me remember the flower  Buddha sits on) , so it needs a more "warm" background, one that seems to pulse energy or "attract" you to it.
Hope to have helped!

Nice.  Kinda reminds me off chakra symbols.

Thank you! I didn't know the chakras were represented by symmetrical patterns like this, but I just looked it up, and I can certainly see the similarities.

Absolutely beautiful. The bright pink really stands out against the darker background and the lighter pink pinks within stand out as well. You are an awesome artist.

Thank you! I hadn't been thinking of chakras when I made this, but now that I've looked it up, I can definitely see the resemblance.

Everything together. Wavy shape in background, shades of pink, soft curves of petals, delicate lines and points like filigree. Ultimate welcoming feminine.

I love the detailed analysis. I can definitely see how this pattern gives that impression.
