Thank you. Thank you for posting tutorials that aren't just a 'magic blur' of art but comprehensive and enjoyable. It's not some artist droning on and on, or some on who is being condescending, it's simply an awesome artist, trying to help other people get it. lol. Thanks man, keep up the awesome work!

Yeah, it's hard to get out of the lazy stage, that's why the word MUSE exists, to get you inspired to move onto doing something

I'm glad that you empathize on the sketching cuz I've always thought that if you do to much sketching your not going to get any where but you've proven to me that If I keep on sketching the anatomy and have fun with it I'll get better at it! THanks again Steve!

I'm not as experience as you are. Heck, I may have been drawing since I was three, but I am now in the use of the Japanese Comic Book art style...

Enough about that though, The hips and legs are my biggest problems.

I have a girl, in a swimsuit, shes sitting on the beach right? So I am having her either laying on her back, on her stomach, or sitting up.

With sitting up, I sometimes try to have on leg bent, and the other either laying flat out, or bent in towards the other leg. This where I start wondering what to do about the shape of the crotch, cause your not going to see much of it if your not drawing the girl facing you.

The breasts are my next biggest peeve. Shaping them when the arms are involved in pushing them up, holding the arms down their front, you know, or holding an object that influences the shape...It...Its just makes me frustrated and start bugging out.

Keep sketching more, when you feel like it's not coming out, just continue to sketch and up your levels on how you hold your pencil and pressure as you draw more. Trust me that is the key to drawing better, getting use to how you work with a tool. Sketch.

The-Reploidst In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-07-23 15:49:14 +0000 UTC]

Well. I sorta use a Mechanical Pencil.

StevenSanchez In reply to The-Reploidst [2008-07-23 15:55:22 +0000 UTC]

That's fine.

Next, is poses. Poses are some of hardest things for me to do. I can do standing up poses pretty well or poses that imitate the standing up position such as diving and such. But when I get to laying down at angles, crawling position, laying on the side or looking from behind any of those positions...I think my brain just freezes up or something cause I dunno what to do

Yeah, I need lots of help.

StevenSanchez In reply to The-Reploidst [2008-07-23 21:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Once again, nothing that sketching can't fix. Keep sketching and understanding what makes for a good pose. Ask yourself a question about it and see if you can find an answer. You'll be more proud when you find the answers and you've upped a level in illustration

Okay then, seems I will be doing sketch dumps of poses.

Well, these type of arrow method and etc. are fine and helpful, but I don't realy feel free by sketching that way, because I feel like I do the same thing in every sketch...

I am always amazed at how fast you can capture a gesture, that's usually the longest part when I draw

Thanks for the video! You have reaffirmed my desire to use gesture drawing to get past my artists block. Keep up the incredible work!

Shadows-at-Dusk In reply to ??? [2008-05-21 02:32:50 +0000 UTC]

Urg the lighting is not as good as the other videos. It is really tough to see what you're drawing at times because the light reflects off the paper and into the lens...

I'm a little confused by how you say "learn to sketch" are you reffering to all the people that free-hand without drawing shapes or the body first? Or just people that never really keep it loose when sketching? *is guilty of the latter*.

Oh, and any tips for keeping it loose when sketching like you did? I usually get frusterated if the anatomy isn't ok, or sometimes I'm plain scared to draw because I don't want to mess up @_@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to Jetyra-Luck [2008-05-19 12:12:49 +0000 UTC]

Sketch in pieces, don't attempt to sketch an entire anatomy off the bat. then later you put all those pieces together. Sketch more often then trying to do final pieces. And yes, Loose Sketching is best

Jetyra-Luck In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-05-20 01:39:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. In the 3 years I've been serious about drawing not one of my art teachers has helped me much. Surprisingly most of them told me to practice the entire anatomy and to sketch light, but chicken scratch. Kind of the way you say people SHOULDN'T draw. Honestly I think I've learned more from just watching your tutorial videos than all my art teachers combined. Thanks a bunch for that.

StevenSanchez In reply to Jetyra-Luck [2008-05-20 02:24:44 +0000 UTC]

Chicken Scratching is NOT a BAD thing. Don't misunderstand me, it's good and many older pro's use that method still. It's just a slower process. I'm trying to boost you guys And thanks for the comment
