Design has changed indeed. The space between the outer ring and the inner ring of the saucer section is hollow.

nice picture but i wonder what the ship looks like now because didn't they say the design has changed since the reveal trailer?

I must also say, that i'm not a fan of this design. When i first saw they used the triangle shaped sescondary hull design i wouldn't want to belive my eyes.Β
But you managed to find the only angle that makes even that ship look good. Good work!

Really not a fan of the McQuarrie design. Too... Star Wars-esque. I like teh saucer deign, but just really not a fan of the rest of it. Also, 10 years before TOS, isn't this ship, well, rather large? Rather like JJ scale problems! Going by the number of decks and the windows, it's huge!
nice artwork though! Well done.

Based on the new trailer, I think that the visual designers have pretty much said, "Ok, we're going to homage TOS as much as possible, but we're also not going to be held hostage by a visual language that was created half a century ago to promote the then-new invention of color TV."

Hmmm ... I must admit i'm not a big fan the McQuarrie design, Β but i gotta admit, i think it is growing on me- the bussard caps are interesting.

I have a feeling that this will not be the actual ship.Β I think it is merely to keep fans guessing and interested.Β This is a 3d version of the concept drawings of Ralph McQuarrie's ship for Star Trek Phase II that never went into production.Β As far as ship designs, it is interesting/

The McQuarrie design was for a 1975 movie concept, Star Trek: Planet of the Titans. The 1977 Star Trek Phase 2Β design was created by Matt Jeffries, and then when Star Trek: The Motion PictureΒ went into production in late 1977, Andrew Probert was hired to redesign it into the Refit/NCC-1701-A model (and Probert's 1977 concept sketch of a version of the EnterpriseΒ inspired but unencumbered by the previous design became the basis of the NCC-1701-D).

I've read a similar comment elsewhere, that would be interesting! Perhaps it's like the first model of the USS Voyager? They also noticeably changed it later on.

This ship immediately screamed "Star Trek!" to me the moment I saw it. Fantastic job!

I just know that a year from now, we'll be referring to this ship as "the Disc". Maybe even on screen. You heard it here first! XD
...well, I'll be calling her that, anyway. Fingers crossed for the new series!

To be honest, I can't make models myself, I basically cut it out of the trailer.
