I can imagine it now:
Sulu jams the warp throttle as far as it'll go. "We can't outrun the shockwave!" he says. "Push it!" says Kirk. "She's maxed out!" says Sulu. Kirk hails Scotty over his comlink. "I need more power, or we'll be vaporized!" says Kirk. "We'll have to jettison the warp core!" says Scotty. "The blast might be enough to push us away."
A hatch opens in the ship's belly and she throws her warp core overboard. The explosion sends the ship tumbling end-over-end, but she manages to escape the shockwave.
