What a nice, relaxing day, Margaret couldn’t help but think to herself as she sat on the bank of the river. It really was fun to just go and relax with some tokotas instead of taking them out to do a rite of whatever or hunt this or cave that. Just relax, you know? And that’s exactly what she was doing today. She sat at the river bank, The sweet Strudel laying across her lap, still soaked from his initial hop in the river before he decided it was just too cold in there and opted to soak up all of the rays meant for Margaret, instead. Kandalk and Lomasi were paddling along swiftly in what seemed to be some kind of race, and Margaret had to yell an insistent “Don’t get too far away from me, you two rascals!” Which the two seemed to be enjoying. Nerromiktok was happily sunning herself upon a rock she’d paddled out too in the middle of the river, seemingly letting herself dry only to have to get all wet on the swim back. Wren was paddling around the same rock in slow, gentle movements as were her way, and the two seemed to be having a conversation of some sort, though god only knows about what. Unless they were making themselves clear, Margaret could never tell what tokotas were thinking. And Strudel was definitely making himself clear now as he tugged aggressively on the sleeve of Margaret’s swim shirt (she never really was very much of a bikini person. Besides, sunburns are the absolute worst!) Strudel, the little dickens, had decided he was going to going get back in the river, but only if Margaret came with him. “Ok, ok.” She said to the insistent tokota who only loosened his grip as she stood up and began to pick him off the ground. Pulling her arms back behind and above her head in a stretch, she let out a ridiculous yell that made the other four tokotas in her care today turn as she ran towards the freezing water. Kandalk, rather far away from the action now because of his petty little race, decided that was probably some sort of odd signal this very odd handler had for him that is was time to come back now and executed a swimming turn on a dime, pivoting back with ease and grace to meet the silly, yelling handler who was now chest deep in the freezing water. Lomasi, completely ignoring all things but the race right now, as if she had blinders on, heard Kandalk turning around and, thinking that the race was going to go back to where it had started, the large rock in the middle of the river that Nerromiktok was sunning herself on, did her best to execute a turn as well and began to paddle back as quickly as she could, trying to catch up to the tokota she thought she was still racing, Kandalk. Wren simply turned to Margaret with a look of motherly love as she jumped in. SHe thought the energy and excitement of the teenage handler named Margaret were just precious and admirable. She was so happy to be in the care of someone like her for the day. Nerromiktok, as affectionate as ever, slid off of the rock she’d chosen to perch herself on as Margaret ran into the water, and joined her in it, Paddling around with Wren happily. Strudel, pleased with his victory of getting her in, simply responded with a happy howl of his own as she jumped into the water and starting up a neat doggy paddle with his tiny little toki legs as he ran up to join Margaret and Nerromiktok as they played in the water. Struel, ever child like, jumped up on Wren’s back happily, the giant dire being more than happy to support the little toki in the rather big river. The silly racers headed back, as well, and Kandalk made it first, mush to Lomasi’s chagrin. As he ran up the rock that had been made the start and finish and perched himself on it like the winner that he was, Lomasi happily swam over to join the splashing, whistling, and whooping that was happening between Margaret, Strudel, Nerromiktok, and even Wren. As Lomasi got in on the action, Kandalk realized that despite how regal he felt up on top of this winner’s rock, he was clearly missing out on a lot of the fun that was happening down below, and reluctantly climbed off of the tower he’d declared his to get in on the fun with the other five. With lots of splashing and laughing, the day seemed to go by in a jiffy, and when it was finally time to head home, the group left with their hair full of water and their faces plastered with large smiles.
