produced through mondo as part of their Academy Awards series, here's my poster for rango.i'd heard the film was great, but i usually shy away from non-pixar animated films when they're released, thinking that they couldn't possibly deliver the heart that the pixar films do. rango, like kung fu panda and how to train your dragon before it proved me woefully wrong. outside of the lush visuals, insane action sequences, and amazing creature design, there's a real soul to the character of rango (voiced by johnny depp) that is quirky and endearing and elevates the film to a higher level.
at any rate, the poster will be released at a random time during the academy awards ceremony on feb 26th, so make sure to not get caught staring at glenn close in her "albert nobbs" makeup and pay attention to the mondo site. happy hunting.

Oh yeah, Rango was a thing!
Also I saw this movie in theaters as a kid and liked it.
Now as an adult, whenever I see this movie, I really still like it to this day.

If I were a critic, I would give this movie....

Rango is a fantastic movie! I like how it's crude. You don't see that a lot in cartoons these days.

Woah I didn't notice the water drops the first time I looked at this, what a freakin' brilliant subtle detail! I personally wasn't very fond of the movie outside of the the INCREDIBLE visuals, but this poster really, honest to god, makes me want to watch it again. You captured the voice of the movie so well, from the limited color palette right down to the goofy singing owls. I am just.... impressed. Gonna go look for a copy of this movie now bye.

I loved this movie. It felt like a parody of the Western movies but really it just took the same archetypes in those films and made them into desert animal versions of them.
I love the color design of this too with the earth tones with only Rango getting green color.
My favorite characters were the mariachi owl band/narrators.

I dislike this movie. For a couple of reasons, but the main one is simple and stupid:
Why does the only lady lizard in town, (who must also be the fairly useless love interest), have breasts and hair? Why are her eyes and skin so lifeless? She looked like she belonged in a different movie compared to the other character models. The whole time I just couldn't focus on the movie because of that one stupid detail.

Many in my area saw the movie and were not entertained. I simply did not understand, because I thought the movie was absolutely awesome. Just like this poster here. Lovely work, I love that this is only comprised of six colors.

If Rango beats out KFP2 for the Oscar, it will be because of overbearing campaigning to the academy. That movie was boring and not funny, and basically the plot of Chinatown. The rendering was great and different. I felt the art direction, action and comedy in Kung Fu Panda 2 set it apart this year. Granted I have not seen 2 of the other films that were nominated.
