This is the flag of the Republic of Turing, established in 2374 after the dissolution of the First Homosexual Territory of the Earthen Empire. During the Time of the Boiling Copper in the mid-2300s, Emperor Gideon Raphael I declared that Earth and the Inner Systems should be of one people, free of what he deemed 'asocials and subversives'. The Empire was fighting seven wars simultaneously, and this does something to a man's mind. With a mixture of irredentist spirit, financial incentives, and social intimidation, large numbers of subcultures, ethnic minorities, and ideological factions were deported from the Inner Systems. This was not a total exodus (especially considering the fact that homosexuality cannot simply be removed from a population), nor did it have any tangible benefit to the war effort in hindsight, yet many of these insular communities survived the era and established themselves as states within the empire, with the reconciliatory blessing of Gideon's son, William II.
In 2492, the Republic of Turing covers the namesake planet (itself named after the war hero and computer pioneer Alan Turing, persecuted to the point of suicide for his homosexuality), its three small moons, and its orbital and Lagrange point structures. There are a small population of women in the Republic, either immigrant or descended from such, but 97% of the population is male. Artificial meiosis is used for reproduction, and other than the blatant gender majority, is little different to any given planet in the Empire. Yet, it still owes much of its culture to the historic gay communities of Old Earth, and that history shall not be forgotten.
The flag consists of the traditional pride flag of gay men, with the Imperial Standard in canton, showing its subservience to and membership of the Empire. Polities holding membership of the Empire, but are considered on equal standing with Earth, show a modified standard on their flag. as a vertical stripe at hoist, taking up one third to one quarter the flag’s area. Black on the flag represents the space humanity has conquered and colonised, and white represents the innocence, justice and truth of humanity’s efforts (regardless of how it actually pans out). The fimbriated stripe travels upward and rightward, representing the eternal journey of humanity from height to height, and has red, to represent the blood shed on this journey, blue to represent the force of arms and justice needed to survive the joruney, and green, to represent new growth as the journey succeeds.
