this was very helpful, i will definately keep in mind your technique in the future.
would you mind doing a tutorial on hair like you had those colors in it for the 7 deadly sins pictures.
did you just like do that same thing with the colors except just put them in your hair?
thanks,
melissa

I did have a question about the tutorial. When your first working with the Burn tool, will you be burning the Midtones, Shadows, or Highlights. I know each of them produce pretty drastic effects. Just wondering! ^_^

Hi Sugargirl, I tried this tutorial step by step... but I got quite lost...
1. At what point do you change the layer style... or when do you do merge the layers?
When I keep both layers, and I keep the blend mode as ' color' then the rest of the face and pic, become weird...
2. why is the pic first crazy orange and the all of a sudden in stage 4. it has a more normal colour?
Do you have the time to explain?
would appreciate some feedback...

No, it depends on what you want, but I think low opacity is needed.
Thank you I'm glad I could help!

I have a ~couple of~ questions!
1. Most importantly: is it possible to do this in GIMP?
'Cause your instructions are for PS users.....
2. Are we supposed to colour on the eye layer itself, or a new layer, or is there any switching between the two in the process?
3. How do you change from the skin-coloured picture of the eye to the b/w version? (You didn't state... .__.)
Sorry for my questions. I've never tried image manipulation before. -is embarassed-
And not translating PS tuts for GIMP either.

hey awsome tutorial, just have 2 questions, do you use this technique on the hair of the seven deadly sins series because i think that looked awsome and also on step 4 you wrote using the color in the middle, color around the eye, did you mean the shine in the eye or something else? anyway great work ^^ love the makeup tutorial as well

Hey! I did my first (actual) eye manipulation here: [link]
I used to think that you have to cut around the eye and copy, then change the color and overlay it... but I didn't know about the different types of layers... oh well, now I know!

I LOVE YOUR EYES and the tutorial is great but I do have a few small issues:
In the tutorial there was no mention of layering or copy the background layer.
When I use the burn tool it will only work for so long and than quit.
Is it possible that you could create another tutorial but this time for beginners like me where you go into the layers to get somewhat the same effects that you have.
I get the part about the dodge tool and the burn tool and I realize I should have a bit more patience with the tools if I want the same effects. But I have difficulty with which layers to do what with and when. The rest I understand. When I'm finish I merge the visible and I get what I want.
Would love a step by step by step layering process for th eyes. Also I'm trying so hard to create dragon eyes which I think would be cool. Note me if you can about this.
Again the tutorial rocks. It worked for me up to the point when I started using the burn tool.

The tutorial works really well, and the test picture that I used it with turned out great, but there are a couple things I think you should have pointed out, such as to change the layer before you use the burn and dodge tools. It sounded like a lot of people were having trouble because they didn't change layers. Just a little pointer though! I really liked the tutorial.
