Here's another in my pregnancy series with Laura. My goal was to capture the warmth and love of the new mother with warm, soft light. I used a white umbrella for my main light, and placed a key light slightly behind her to the side to emphasize her form against the background.Related content

she was about 3 months in at this point. my only advice is to experiment with light, and keep her comfortable during the shoot. if you don't have flashes or other studio lights, try some backlighting with window light. good luck and congratulations!

So elegant and delicate, you really show off her nice warm motherly glow to its best advantage. I like how the focus, where your eyes are drawn to her tummy and the rest of her is an after thought. You look at the tummy and go βahhh babyβ then your eyes drift upward and itβs βoh look how content she looks.β

The background def. helps to warm things up in this one. The expression I don't mind so much, I mean just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you loose your sense of humor. The one thing I did find interesting is that the way the fabric is folded at the bottom made me flash on those habits that nun's wear, with the folded wings. Kind of an interesting contrast.

The fabric does make you think about the rest of the composition. I think this one is the best one from the series so far. It's great how you've taken a long term job upon yourself. It'll be interesting to follow this.
Once again, great lighting. The background and the lighting have made the tones softer in this one, perhaps making it more sensual.

This one is my favorite of the series so far, probably beause it feels warmer and softer than the others. You really rule when it comes to lightning

i think this is definitely the best in the series so far. i'm not at all a fan of pregnancy portraits either.

I only have two VERY minor things with this image. The facial expression seems a bit 'off' to me. It seems as if maybe she's smirking, perhaps in a 'Mona Lisa' fashion, but I'm not sure I like that. The other is the fabric folds at the bottom. I'm not sure there's enough there to clearly define what it is that is covering her. Perhaps to either show more, or none would be better??
Regardless of those two minor things. I REALLY love the light. I also love the hair draping behind her head, and also the background. Again, I can not wait to see the second and third trimester shots ... she's going to love them!

I agree with Manyk about the facial expression, it's kind of smirky, but not so much that it taked away from the rest of the image. Also on my screen the backdrop looks a little greenish, I dunno what the actual colour is, but I think I would like to see a different hue there.
Love the right side lighting, really brings out the navel, which draws attention to the pregnant belly. Nice hanging of the hair too

Ahh yes. I thought the same thing about the fabric folds. The 95% coverage of the viewfinder makes you guess a little about composition. I decided to just go with what ended up in the image.

Okay, I took the advice from you another gentleman that I also put up his words to me as I did yours remember on my Journal? I think you can see a difference in my new material and I bought a circular 36' reflector and my umbrallas and lights should be here soon as well. I Thank You for all the advice you gave me in the past and for your unselfishness.

very beautifull, but I think this pose with be much better later one. even though you can, its sort of hard to tell if she is pregnant or just bloated.

This is just the first trimester. We will do similar shots for second and third trimesters and show the progression of changes in her body. Working for the long term here...
