Description
This is the first in a series of pregnancy portraits I'm taking. I found it to be a very emotional and beautiful subject to photograph. A young mother-to-be is both fragile and strong, and I tried to capture that in my images. These photos are among my favorites of my own work. I hope you like them too.Related content

oh wow. absolutly amazing photo. the modle is lovely, i have always wanted to take photos of pregnate women... but asking them on the streets seems kind of rude (i dont know any)
i love the lighting, perfect for this.
really amazing photo

thank you. yeah... there's a big trust issue when it comes to these pregnancy photos.
i'm guessing that you'll know more pregnant women as you get older, so if you want to do it, i'm sure you'll have your opportunity soon.

Being 9 weeks pregnant myself, when I saw your latest dev, I was like So had to, of course, come see them from the beginning.
How many weeks here is she, do you know?
It's gorgeous. So delicate, and non-intruding on herself, you know what I mean? She looks completely natural and at home with her position, while she is in a state of vulnerability.

thanks! she's about 8 1/2 months along now, very close to delivering.
i have a few more coming in which there's not as much vulnerability, and possibly more power coming through. thank you for looking.

I'm going to be doing a series like this soon with my sister in law (at her request when she found out she was pregnant) so I'm glad your doing something like this so I can learn from the master of portraits.

OH how lovely! I don't think I've ever seen anyone bother to take pictures of such an "young" pregnancy. Normally everyone waits till the mommy is ready to pop 'cause she's so "due". The only thing I would change is the positioning of her hand. Seems to me it needs to be either differnt or softer looking. She kind looks like she's scratching.

You're right... The position of the hand is not the greatest. But I didn't have another shot like this one. Anyway, second and third trimesters are coming too, so you'll be able to see her get rounder!

A very touching and emotional scene to capture!
The lighting --> Is suberb.
The pose --> Excellent.
Although I don't really like the position of the hand. It looks like it's poking the belly rather than gently touching it

Beautiful light and pose. That... feeling is definately there.
Now, I know you're against cropping, but you have to agree that cropping a bit from the bottom and left would improve it a bit

Elegant, beautiful, emotional, peaceful, loving.
Love it.
I would like to see at least a simple border though, just to seperate it from the 'da green' and give it a finished look.

Well done kev: I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said, but can only say that I must agree: You've composed an image that is elegeant, captivating and empowering. The subject's left hand is a little ackward, as if its in mid motion .. other than that the subject looks serene, at peace. I've also noticed you haven't been using a border lately -- is this due to lack of time or?? I think you could definitely enhance your image by literally framing it thus setting a strong delination from the background.

very nice. but something is bothering me a litlle, i don't know what yet. i'll tell you if i find what. maybe the face that should be more 3/4... maybe not. the whole is still excellent. nobody said it, so maybe i'm obsessed with girls but it is sexy as well as soft and tender. i don't really understand the fingers, too.
anyway, superb lightning and great emotion, that was the point.

Excellent shot. Seems like ony a few days ago that Ash was with child herself. I like the way this was lit; background lighter in the center of the pic, fading at the edges; it draws the eye there, where there is that contract between the light and the dark cloak she is wearing. Have to agree with Manyk on the stool though. The right angles of the stook don't mesh well with the curvyness of the model, IMO.
Looking forward to more

Love the light here Kev. It's giving a beautiful and warm classical feel to the image. 'Painterly' one might say. And just as the classical and neo-classical painters, you've managed a wonderful and tasteful composition.
The ONLY thing I don't care for 100% is the chair ... I have NO idea what kind of chair/stool/box/whatever I'd WANT to see there, but somehow that one there doesn't, erm, 'sit' right with me. BUT, I do know you can only work with what you have available, so I'm totally overlooking the chair.
I can't WAIT to see all trimesters ... this has started out to be a stunning piece ... EXCELLENT work bud!

Beautiful indeed. Hope to see the progression of the ever expanding belly. I wonder what it would be like in Black and white.

YES full of emotion !!
though i find the curves of the belly is a little strange and the hand is in a ugly position .... sorry ... i'm not considering me i could do better ( i really love your work ! ), but this is catching my eyes here ...
anyway, the picture is still a very nice and tender capture !!!

Great idea and as always great work. If I could sum up the one thing you have that I wish I had is the creativeness to come up with not only great concepts but to make them work as well.

Yes, this one might look better with framing. :\ But I haven't framed any of my recent photos lately, so I didn't want to start with this one. My theme is "simplicity" these days.
