Description
I love how the camera allows us to see things in new ways. This is a 30-second exposure taken from the end of the dock at the cottage in Magnetawan, Ontario. Can you identify any constellations?Processed to TIF from camera RAW file. No post work.

Wow. I love the blue. Perfect reflection. And, I like how just that one star (or planet) is reflected in the center of the photo. Great shot.. very calming to look at.

Great image. Gonna have to try this with my 350D.
Lots of light pollution in my area, though.

It gives me such a great sense of calm and peace. In that respect it reminds me of my favorite image *Davenit did called Path. (not here on DA now) The blue colors are so deep and gorgeous. The treeline creates a wonderful rolling curve. It's like a lullaby to me. Are you offering this one as a print? I hope so...
only one thing buggers me. There's a reflection of a star in the water that's bright white and right in the middle where the tops of the trees are reflected. I thought it was a speck on my computer screen and i was wiping and wiping at it. tricky tricky kev.

thanks! yes, that star (arcturus, apparently) was really bright and obvious that night. a lot of the other stars were not visible to the naked eye, but showed up because of the long exposure.

Breathtaking!
From left to right...
Ophiuchus (The serpent bearer - and one that I used in one of me pirate flags a while back - [link] ),
Serpens Caput (the head of the snake), Corona Borealis, Bootes (of which its brightest star, Arcturus, is just about dead center just above the trees,
and refleceted in the water in your photo), and The handle of of the Big Dipper is there, too!

I wasn't sure at first because it looks like one of the Dipper's stars is missing.
Must be just out of the pic or maybe obscured by some tiny cloud that isn't evident in the photo.

yeah i think it got bumped off the edge. the lens is super-wide, so edge and corner perspective distortion accelerates towards the edges and corners. the poor star probably got sucked into that. i remember seeing the big dipper in the sky above the river. it was spectacularly bright, and the only thing i recognized i'm glad you identified arcturus there. it was brilliant that night.

wow, really nice shot... it is indeed interesting what kind of things you can capture through a camera, that you don't actually see in real life, usually it's the other way around where something in real life looks cool and is hard to capture in the same light by just photographing it... nice to see you sort of reversed that
The blues of course are really pretty, and it is nice how sharp the stars look... I keep telling myself I need to try and get some star pictures... it's also interesting how the green shows up in the trees...
anyways, very pretty shot

an interesting exposure -- like the way you viewed the photo -- the waves are endless -- always -- can't really say what constellation are there -- just that you captured the right ones -- later days

I love the shot, I am assuming it was sunset and you caught it right before it completely setted.
Your horizon is excellent and the overall composition is magnificent, awesome work!

thanks! no, this was about 9:30pm, and it looked pretty dark to the naked eye, but the long exposure captured and amplified every bit of available light so it looks brighter than it did to me. the glow on the horizon is from the sun reflecting off the atmosphere
