Description
Semi-film-noir-inspired photo of Nicole. I used a spotlight to get that really dramatic light dropoff and pitch black background.Related content

More beautiful lighting. This and the shot 'Evanesce' carry the same mood to me. The quality of light is very similar. Care to share the sort of lighting methods you employed here?

this is just a single light with a fairly wide grid on it (probably 30 degree but i don't remember precisely).

I love what you have done here. It looks so dramatic, and I have always loved b&W photos. Great job Keep it up.

ahhh, i love the way the lighting makes the bra look. almost veltety. and i happen to like the thickness. the texture here just seems so soft and rich. that's how she looks too, rich and privledged. Her expression also makes her look sad though. so seemingly contradictory.

I think I've learnt more about the use of light from watching your work than anywhere else. And not just in the sense of photography, but paint and sketch as well.

The expression on her face is perfect. It really fits the piece and the title!
Amazing yet again.

Kev, you truly are a master of light.
After my first day in a proper studio on Sunday I've come to appreciate how difficult it is to make beautiful photographs like this.
And most of all get the mood right. And how to make it look so natural and simple.
This is so beautiful in all its subtlety. I especially love the gaze you've captured in her eyes.

thank you. it's just a matter of practice. after you practice a while you forget about the tech and you can concentrate on the humanity of your subject, which i think is most important anyway. studio light becomes almost a safety net that ensures your artistic vision is not threatened by uncontrollable factors like clouds and the passage of time

I really do adore this subtle light spot on the eye. It makes all the mood of the shot.
From a nitpicking point of view, I would have preferred a bra which would not be so thick. it would not made this not-so-gracious black traingle over the right bosom.

yep I am bad! You submitted this a while ago and I am just now commenting, but I try to stay on top of the people I watch! On top of commenting I mean!
I love that the brightest highlight in this is on her face, cheek more specifically, and that the rest of her body softly drifts into shadow, especially the lower part of her left arm. You can't even see the edge of it, the arm kind of melts into the shadows, her face as well. Brilliant lighting, as everyone has already said

even before I read your description I was thinking "very filmic"
that light gently floating over her face is just stunning, and I'm thinking a closeup of just her face like that would be amazing in itself.
she's a great model, looks relaxed and gorgeous skin

Gorgeous work, man. I dig the lighting, composition, and model. I've always thought that girls who are naturally pretty don't need makeup, and she certainly doesen't. It's good you saw that.
