Description
Again, part of my Femme Elemental series, examining femininity and sensuality through the study of female contours. This is Lindsay again, sprayed with a light, scented oil and then with water. Light provided by a single softbox.Related content

it makes me stare at it to get my bearings. it's deciptive i think. (i'm not gonna comment on how that applies to your interpretation of femininity) it's also slightly abstract. i think that the oil/water combination was probably a real pain to get off. they aren't mixable after all. (there is a word for that. i thought it was imiscible, but i can't find it in the dictionary. it's perplexing me. i hate it when i don't remember the right word to use) anyway, nice addition to the series even if the interpretation isn't as straightforward as the others.

hehe actually the oil is this super lightweight spray that jen brought with her from H&M finland. i hope i can find it in H&M here in canada now that we have those blasted swedish dens of complacent fashion! and you're pretty close with the word... it's "immiscible"

it looks like a belly buttun and a bit of bum... very odd.. but makes it very non-human and mysterious...wooOOOoooOOOo.... the water dropletness of it makes me happy for no particular reason...i thin because water droplets on car windows mesmerized me as a child... anyhow, yeah, this is goodness, good on ya!

The detail is amazing, the lighting too. The only way to improve would be to show more of her.

The small details are just incredible. So rich in texture and interest - the water/oil drops, the curve of her stomach, and the dip of the belly button... the light..
All perfect. Stunning image

I really don't think this could of been composed any better ... I've seen a few photos like this, and I gotta tell ya this is spot on.
Now, my only concern with your lighting is that harsh edge it leaves on the highlight side. I know why this happens ... but, I am starting to not like it. Uhm, I ain't no expert with light boxes and flashes ad such ... but there's got to be a way of making it smoother ... leaving a defined edge of the subject, yet still having that clean white for a backdrop/light.
See, for me, it sort of makes the setup 'feel' fake, or um, 'setup'.
At any rate ... this is just wicked bud. I keep thinking back to your other photos with the Epson .... and wondering how the hell you lived without the 10d ... you have come a LONG way with that new equipment, the cam, the bees, hell, even moving into the condo has changed your style a bit. All I can say is it's all great what you're doing ... and also great that you are still experimenting and pushing yourself!

ok on further inspection, it seems that the sharp DoF dropoff is caused by the high f-value, which is a result of me forgetting that the camera was on ISO 200

yeah i think the issue with the sharp line is the fact that i processed the raw file with some high contrast settings. i might be able to avoid it by doing a sandwich of high and low contrast versions, only masking in the low contrast in those transition areas. i'll play with it. thanks!
