Description
Shiny Form: sta.sh/01aavl9tny7xEvolves From: www.deviantart.com/supersonicg…
Basis: Inspired by Mind Flayers and the Blue-Ringed Octopus.
Original Version: www.deviantart.com/supersonicg…
Special Notes: *Mind Jack - 33% chance of forcing the opponent into using the last move it used upon making direct contact. (Think Encore, but an ability.)
**Illithid - Alternate name for a Mind Flayer.
Signature Move: Brain Drain
Category: Special
Type: Psychic
Power: 60
Accuracy: 100
PP: 10
"The user siphons knowledge from the opponent's mind, draining 2-5 PP from their last used move to recover the user's HP."
(Note: Amount of HP regain depends on amount of PP drained. 2 PP = 20% of max HP, 5 PP = 50% of max HP)
Battle Specs: As you might expect from a Mind Flayer, Octolliths excel in both Special Attack and Special Defense, and their moves more than compliment their mind-warping inspirations. With moves like Encore, Disable, Amnesia, Hypnosis, Role Play, Dream Eater, Torment, and Nightmare, it's perfectly kitted for messing with its opponent's heads. Of course, for a more traditonal playstyle, it's got your typical Psychic-type move-pool of Psychic, Shadow Ball, Nasty Plot, Calm Mind, Energy Ball, Reflect, and Light Screen, plus some Poison moves like Sludge Wave, Venom Drench, Gastro Acid, Venoshock, AS WELL as other moves like Expanding Force, Hex, Recover, Spite, Thunderbolt, and Memento. It can be surprisingly versatile in what in can do, but there's also the matter of its signature move, Brain Drain; a twisted combo of Giga Drain and Spite that saps the POWER POINTS of the opponents last move to regain HP. Paired with moves like Encore or Hypnosis and it's hidden ability of Mind Jack, this can make for a devastating combination.
Of course, it does have its fair share of faults. It's selection of abilities, while useful, are somewhat situational: Sychronize only works when you already have a status, and Mind Jack, while it pairs very well with its kit, is relegated to a rare hidden ability. Infiltrator's the most practical out of the three, but its more reliant on the what the opponent does. It also a definite victim of four-move syndrome, since it has a wide selection of moves that would work well with it, but only four slots to use. And then there's its ACTUAL flaws of low physical stats and middling speed. It's very prone to being outsped by sweepers, and a solid physical hit will likely be more than enough to put Octollith down.
Even so, what it does well, it does REALLY well. If played to its strengths, Octollith can stand as one of the trickiest Psychic-types in the entire Sapio roster, so underestimate at your peril!
Artist's Notes: After over a year since little Octyke joined the roster, it's now fully grown and ready to feast on some brain food, if you know what I mean! Now, if you recall back when I was talking about Vamparon, I had mentioned that I was initially planning on making it Poison/Psychic before eventually settling on a more thematic Dark/Psychic typing. Shortly after that, I had pitched to some friends mine over in an art stream I go to what ideas they could come up with for a Poison/Psychic typing, since...I still liked the idea of that combo and still wanted to use it somehow...and the Mind Flayer idea was brought to my attention. So, after a bit of research, I put together a concept...and thus Octollith was born! Originally had more tentacle-y arms and a set of legs, but they just ended up looking a bit too wonky, so I streamlined them a bit.
But yeah, I hope you all like this, and I'll see you all next time for something...a bit special! Take care! ^_^
