Description Well here's my year. I don't feel like I've improved much, kinda have stayed the same. Maybe improved in backgrounds some. But it's neat to see anyway. Scary how fast the year went by. It seems like last week I was spending hours on "Secrets" with Antillian, but that was back in February!

I think your knowledge and rendering of your riders and tack has improved over the year for sure.

I do think you've gotten a little stuck with working digital and not expeimenting with how you use light and shadow. You're working mostly in shades of the base rather than looking for the innate variety in tone and hue. Perhaps something to lay with in the coming year.

I think sometimes by the time I get to shading the muscles, after sketching, lining and base coat, I'm tired of it and am not 100% into doing the shading so I just kind get through it. But you are right, I do need to work more with lighting. Which would come to having more elaborate backgrounds and having a plan of how horse and bg work together. Normally I just do horse fully then add background in last. Need to do them at the same time. Thank you for the critique, I will keep it in mind in my work this year!

You're most welcome.

I do get what you're saying about being "tired" with a piece at a certain point.

Working the background and horse at the same time will definitely help as well as using background colors in your shading of the horse and vis-versa (sp?). I know you got into the greyscale shading the last year or two (egads time flies, can't remember how long) and I think that way of working lends itself to ignoring variations in hue. Granted I've personally never worked in that mode, too much of a traditionalists, though I guess you could work it like one would an oil painting with layers of "glaze" in order to produce color ... that could be interesting.

Anyway, as always, looking forward to see where you take your work!

I don't know if you answer comments at all, I've totally forgotten, but either way, I feel the need to give input insofar as the fact that I loved your art when you changed the lineart to something a little thicker but didn't loose any of the detail. A good move there.
