Wow, I don't think reference pictures are supposed to take this long. I lost track of the total hours I put into this but it was probably somewhere around 15. My computer shuts off if the adapter is broke so I lost sketches multiple times before they were saved.

Also, this piece was beyond a level I think I could realistically maintain, just because it took so long. The mane and tail was a nightmare and I also just trashed it. I need to find better wait of doing it other that just drawing all the individual hairs.

But I am overall in love with this character and piece. Thanks *Aomori for such a fantastic fantasy breed!

History:
As mentioned on the picture, Antillean has had a dark past. When she was just stepping into her mare body, she became promised to a flashy young stallion. In a horrid battle the warrior bled to death from his multiple wounds after he had defeated his enemy. It was a sad scene with Antillean standing over him while he slowly slipped away. He never knew he was going to be a father.

Alone and with a heavy burden, Antillean was left to carry the weight of her unborn foal. Spring and summer fell away and fall and winter quickly approached. She worked hard at keeping herself healthy but the emotional trauma she endured every day and the task of foraging enough nutrients for herself and the babe was too much for the unborn within.

She gave birth to a colt on the last night of winter but he was too weak and small to survive the last chills of the season. So for the second time in her young life, Antillean watch helplessly as a loved one passed from this world into the arms of the Creator.

She vowed to herself she will never allow herself to fall in love again; she blames herself for their deaths and thinks of her loneliness as her just reward for not being able to bring her lover back to life through the body of her newborn.

But despite all set backs, Antillean puts on a brave face for the world. In social settings she is a kind hearted mare who always prefer others to her own needs and believes there is good in everyone but that she is undeserving of the good.

It is my personal hope that Antillean will find happiness someday, through love or through life.
