Description 2nd Place out of 16! Pretty big win for our boy here!! So happy about his performance.

Ashfall here, putting in more hours on the clock.

I seriously need to learn how to color horse eyes, he looks too tense. And I don't even feel like this looks like Ashfall. With it being done in grayscale, it was kinda difficult to get the colors to work right. And I know the white is like too super shiney but at this point, it's going to stay as is.

Do you like the halter? It's meant to slightly resemble traditional Irish tinker horse tack but I'm not sure if it does because I could hardly find ANY references of that sort of thing.

I think his eye is a bit small and tight. Showing the upper lid slightly might help to soften his eye. The small eye also makes him appear more horse-like than pony-ish. If you compare Ruby (Belgian) and Chewy (Haflinger) in this picture [link] of Chris and I you can see how much larger Chewy's eyes are proportionally, a definite pony trait. If you take his head out of context he looks more like a Drum horse rather than a Vanner. I think part of it is also the fact that you have some pinching in the back of his eye, rather than allowing it to be round and open. Again look at Chewy's eye there and note how the upper lid is relaxed and softly resting above the eye rather than shooting straight up, completely receded into the socket. Things to think about. Drawing a lot of eyes from a lot of different horses in a lot of different situations will also help develop a "vocabulary" of sorts of how you handle your lines in order to produce the proper emotion from the eye.

He looks great, best of luck!

Ooo yeah, I always thought my eyes were off and the lid this is just what they need. I drew it in picture I'm working on and it certainly did the trick. I like the bigger eye too, it gives them more character and cuteness. Thank you for the advice! I worked I think!

um you can use the contrast setting to fix over-brightness, you can ctrl + l to bring up another one, you can do selective colour, or hue/saturation to sometimes fix it or you can use the line graph one.

do you have the actual while markings on a separate layer? or are they on the actual body base layer?

The halter is so cute
For the white, you could try Darken or Screen (can't remember which) in a sort of off-white with a hint of cream/ochre, to take the edge off the pure white areas on the coat. Only a teeny bit though as you want to retain SOME of the shiny goodness! As for eyes, well blue eyes are super-hard to get natural looking. They always have a tendency to look odd and a bit surprised Maybe try a little darker blue towards the top, to suggest shadow from the upper eyelid/bone?
