So, I'm...completely in love with the part in the finale when Momo chitters and Mai looks at him along with everyone else? And my Mai-fanboy-ness makes me watch Mai in that part, thereby immediately...yeah. You get the idea.BUT THE WORLD NEEDS MORE MAI/MOMO BONDING!!!
So, this started with me drawing a pair of eyebrows in the classic "What the knockwurst?" pose...then adding Mai's eyes and face...and actually liking it....and then the hair blowing and a slightly forward neck. And then I decided to just not draw proper clothes on the girl and put her in a swimsuit. I decided to let the audience work the reasoning out for that. But then the problem came with deciding who to put behind her. I tried Zuko, but he turned out horrible...considered Appa, but chose to save him for another day...Sokka had the same thing...and then, well, I fell back on the lemur standby.
Momo is strange. When you start drawing him, you keep drawing him.
Once again...MS Paint for pretty much the whole thing. I can't do cute or beautiful, but by golly, when I do acceptable, I do it in the most primitive of digital manners possible!

Mai and Momo would have cute interactions...she'd be serious, he'd be...Momo...and then he'd steal her food and she'd flip out completely.

Not particularly. XD Zutarian essays actually tend to be very, very well-thought-out and structured--often with gaping holes and certain deficiences in consideration, but for the most part, they're well-done. Well. That I've read. Which is why they're so darn frustrating.

True, we could use more interaction and such...maybe something will come about in the future. Mini-episodes or something.
In the meantime, I'll continue to do my job....after I get Mai in pics with the other three people required (Sokka, Appa, and Hakoda), I'll try working on more "Gaangy" pieces that include her.
And Zuko's absent from my gallery until I forgive him for trying to kill his sister....

No. Big brothers are NEVER allowed to kill their baby sisters. It's a code. Goading your sister into shooting lightning when you already have her on her knees just to prove that you can redirect it, or to get an opportunity for a killing blow...it's just not done.
And what's interesting is that I think that was a view the creators wanted...I mean, they showed that "Ursa" loved Azula and just thought she was confused. It was just an illusion, of course, but you could tell that that was still pretty much how Ursa felt. They generated sympathy for Azula in that episode...and Zuko was a big bully. Lightning bolt served him right...fortunately, he didn't die, so he could learn from that extreme lapse in ego.

And Ursa, I don't think she honestly loved Azula like she did Zuko. I have reasons for that, but that's a different time...

Oh, maybe not as much, but a mother's love is a powerful universal concept. And she was encouraging Zuko to play with her, and she wondered what was wrong with the girl. She's a mom; her not loving Azula is pretty much out of the question. Azula was just damaged and confused, and Ursa is probably the one thing that can heal Azula from this state. Azula has lost everything, just like Zuko did all those years ago. Ursa may be able to help.

True. But I think there is something else there. I think she had to protect Zuko more, watch him more at first. Then when Azula came... it wasn't like Ursa hated her, it's just maybe Ursa had to protect her son more. Personally, I think there is way more to the story than they showed. And there was a reason for that. Maybe in the movie they'll discuss it.
Maybe as Azula grew up, she tried so hard to gain the acceptance of her parents as Zuko had of Ursa. Since Azula surpassed her brother in almost everything, Ozai showed her the love and affection she desired. However, Ursa still stayed with Zuko, not because she hated Azula, but because in a way, she would feel guilty if both parents loved Azula while only one loved Zuko. I do have a theory that Ozai isn't the real father of Zuko and therefore Zuko was treated differently... but anyways... since Ozai clearly loved Azula more, due to the fact she took after him, she grew closer to him, imatiting him in every way.
But still, Azula only wanted the love of her mother and never got it the way Zuko did. (To be honest, I've been wanting to write something up about their relationship and the reason it is the way it was.) Ursa just lost her chance to be with Azula the way she was with Zuko, for now at least. That's why she didn't understand what was "wrong" with her.
