Description Acrylics, oils, paper, coffee, clockwork on board.
45x30 cm / 18x12 inch

I used a functionally clockwork to make the pointers move. I manipulated the clock a bit, so minute and hour pointer move exactly in the same rythm.

On this watch there never will be a 12 o'clock.

Think about the twelve as a symbol for something you want to achieve - a goal you want to reach....

I just realised your avatar. The scream from Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. Not their best album but I still appreciate to find some more suckers for their music. Thanks for the favorite by the way.

This reminds me of a shadowbox peice. Although it is a 2d representation, it has depth through it's manipulation of a nostalgic sense. Nice. However, here's the downside, the symetry is over exagerated. If the constellation wheel were offset or even exiting the composition, could symbolize motion without actual movement (also tension for suspending disbelief). The remaining space could have further development for representing time i.e. rust, peeling paint and other elemental indications that you've been successful in implementing. In all, you seem to have found a nice process.

I admit that after some time since you started working on these collages I couldn't (mainly conceptually) keep up with them. I think this is partly because you post them one after one. If I were to see them at some latter point altogether, they would have the same impact the first couple on their own had, and have a sense of wholeness as well.
This one, however, drew my attention. I like the composition very much to start off with; and then I saw the animation in your frontpage, and read the description, finding out it -is- functioning, and on top of it the way you manipulated it so that it will never be 12 o'clock; that struck me as brilliant, and very expressive in a certain way, too.
I hope you will take this even further, for as long as you enjoy it.

I most likely will. I ordered some more old instruments (thermometers, barometers) from ebay to implement them into my paintings. Stay tuned and thank you for this wonderful comment.

Very nice work with some excellent ideas. The darker smears and smudges really help bring the piece into the the forground and interact well with the clock.

Yes, but if they were absent then the piece may have seemed bland like it was done just to throw in the clock, instead the clock seams natural and not out of place at all.

I hope it runs not too deep to understand. This piece unites pain and joy in one. Depends on the interpretation of each of us and, most important, whether you're waiting for 12 o'clock or not.

avenescent In reply to swelements [2004-11-22 18:15:28 +0000 UTC]

thank you. yes,... in truth pain and joy are one, (suffering and happiness are two sides of the same coin). one could not be known without the presence and experience of the other. your execution of this is wonderful. may i say this is among my top three favorite pieces of your work, you work horse you. :. bending .:

You're conversation with avenescent is deep... Nice clock manipulation by the way, and I love how the clock looks like the BG is a globe from birds eye view.

The textures are amazing, and one of the coffee stains give a 3-D effect, kind of ass if the rest of the picture. Nice job, It's kind of simplicity and intraceness combined, if that makes any sense at all ?_?
