Just recently got back into re-reading the Unicorns of Balinor series that I read when I was younger. What's ironic is that I like them more now than I did before xD So the plot's a little kiddy, but whatever, I like the characters a lot, and truth be told, I really enjoyed reading them
Anyway, I thought I'd try drawing out some of the characters (I love drawing book characters because you can put your own spin on them
) as well as practice my colour pencils - my real media needs work! So here they are: Sunchaser with Princess Ari, Lori Carmichael, Basil and Dill the foxes, Tobiano, Tierza (I adore her colours!) and Lincoln the collie. I really wasn't sure of Lincoln's colours because the author doesn't seem too sure either, so I just made him tricolour -_-; may change his colours, though, because I'm not really sure it suits him. Aww, thank you! Heh, if you think this is amazing you really haven't been around dA all that much! This is mediocre compared to some of the colour pencil work I've seen. I can give you some links if you'd like!

This is absolutely gorgeous! You have a way of bringing life and personality into animals that is so rare in artists.

Alot of my art is old, most of my recent ones have been just photomanipulation since I figured my mouse hand is too shaky and all my stuff comes out w/ squiggly lines, lol. Until I get that dratted tablet I probably won't hand-draw much..

I didn't give you any suggestions, just some un-suiggestions SUGGESTING what you should not draw like. If someone draws like Spirit or Lion King ON PURPOSE I got no problem with that.

Well, you said quite firmly that you 'frown on' people who use that style, so forgive me if I assumed that you did have problems with them. And your 'suggestion' seemed more of a command, so that's probably why I flared up.
Well, that's not something I take into consideration when giving it out.

-raises eyebrow- Spirit is specific. Anime is a really general term. And I don't lecture. YOU're lecturing ME, not the other way around. Don't go accusing people. And I don't care if YOU hate me, there are always enemies in the world and I have plenty of friends.
I don't mind putting insults at you on your deviation since you seem to take things the wrong way. I don't give a shit how old you are if you're adult, in 3rd grade, middle school, college, whatever.

Look, you seem to be the one with the problem. I already told you that I never used Spirit for reference, so you're the one accusing me of doing something that I didn't do. If my style looks like Spirit, it is coincidental. Plus, my style has evolved somewhat since this picture. In fact, I hold 'drawing in an original style' in very high regard, and I've been trying to make my style my own. Evidently I've not been succeeding with regards to equines, so I'll work harder at it, and I thank you for pointing that out to me. But how you phrased it was just what got to me, and I apologise if I seemed rude. I dislike arguing with people.
Also, I just don't think that you should be going around telling people what style they should be drawing in. 'Critique' means 'pick out things I can improve on', it does not mean 'tell me how to draw'. Even if I did want to draw in Spirit style, so what? You can't control what style I draw in, and in any case, I wasn't consciously drawing in Spirit style. If you want to pick on style, then go around and tell the hundreds and thousands of people who actually do draw - and proudly so! - in the Lion King and Spirit styles to "be original!" Style is something that evolves over time, and picking on style is not, in my opinion, helping anyone be a better artist. Which is why I took offense, and again I apologise.
And I don't hate you. I just feel sorry for you since you evidently think very highly of yourself, and you can't see beyond your own stylistic prejudices. You're the one kicking up a fuss and picking a fight with me, in any case.

I critique that ur unicorns are drawn in the style of Spirit Stallion of The Cimarron, I frown on people using that method because it's unoriginal. Be original!

I did not use Spirit for reference in any way. In fact I, too, frown upon using animated movie styles for reference. My horse style is based on real horses and if it looks like Spirit, that is coincidental. Why don't you go around my gallery some more and look at some of the other horses I've drawn rather than just basing it on one picture?
Also, my humans are not supposed to look like anime. Which brings me to my other point. Why can people draw in anime style but not Spirit? Is that any less original?
At any rate, I suggest you don't go around lecturing people on how to draw. People won't like you for it.

oh, those are also very nice - we don't have that many bi-coloured horses here, you do find them, but mostly just bays and chestnuts(not bad though - actually i like horses in general
