Yay yay yay I am excited.Okay, enough nonsense.. while attempting to jack my stubbornly numb brain into thinking of ideas for a script I had to write for my storytelling class (it's finished more or less now, thank goodness), I came up with a brand new concept! It's been so long since I've done that that I'm getting excited. heh. (I was going to use a character or two for my script, but it was supposed to be a short film so I decided against it since it just kept expanding -_-;
Anyway. It's a fairly new concept, and it's still in the process of solidifying in my head, but basically it's about a pack of disgruntled Toy dogs who are out to prove the true nature of the stereotypically useless yappy annoying fuzzball. (And show up those damn Rin Tin Tin and Lassie wannabes while they're at it, by Canis.) I don't know what to call it, where it's going or anything but I do know I want to explore it further. Toy dogs get a bad enough rep as it is - a totally undeserved one, I might add. I might try attacking some other canine stereotypes while I'm at it.. I can't stand stereotypical/generic dog characters. They're freaking boring. Dogs have as much variety in their personalities (doganalities?) and quirks as humans do, even despite the traits bred into them, and that's something I do want to tackle. So yeah. Didn't intend to write y'all an essay about this, but there you are. When I feel strongly about something, that's the way I am.
This is Peaches the Pom, the first of my new characters for this and the leader of the pack. She may look like a cream puff - and enjoy a good brushing and a couple of Best in Show titles - but don't let that fool ya.. she's smart, sassy and an alpha female through and through. Nonetheless she is affectionate and loyal, and very good with small children if they don't pull her tail too hard. I just love her :3
I think there'll be four or five dogs in the pack in total, not counting the background characters. I'll upload sheets for all of them

Ah yes.. dogs' natures and personalities do differ, not always according to breed. But I'm sure you would love him
Yeah, till she died of old age. But she was a lovely dog I like that name too! My neighbour has a Boxer as well, LOL. But he's a meanie. He's attacked two dogs already and has to be muzzled now -_-;; He wasn't raised properly I guess. Which is sad because Boxers are sweet dogs.

Nah, it's okay xD You can make 'em as long or short as you want.
LOL yes. From the heroic brave GSD/collie/retriever/terrier to the yappy useless Toy breed to the villainous aggressive pitbull/bulldog/bullterrier/staffie/amstaff to the vain poodle/afghan/Toy breed (again xP). I hate it. Thankfully sighthounds never got stereotyped that way (I always tell people that I'm not really a dog person, I'm more of a a sighthound person xD), but it irritates me when other dogs do anyway. It's irritating because you see them like that in the movies over and over again. Thank you Mel.. I hope I get through to people
And nooo. Peaches is my puppy for now anyway, until I create owners for her xD

What a great idea, but one of the reasons many toy breeds suffer the stereo type is because even show breeders with toys are often more concerned with ribbons and body type than temperment. But there are a few breeders here and there working for temperment as well. Its a shame, toys didn't use to have that stereo type.
It would be great to see more stuff fighting against Pibbles(Am staffs, Staffi bulls, Am Pits) their stereo type. Three pibbles saved their owners from a fire and people are putting it off to them just wanting out as well and that that one good pit bull does not make a good breed, of course you know if it was a golden or a lab then everyone would be 'oh hero of the year blah blah blah'. >.<(I've only met one lab thus far that was on its own properity that didnt come charging at me aggressively.)
Anyways....hehe, cute, she is cute!

I know that, it's sad but true. But the fact remains that many Toy breeds have wonderful temperaments and can be lovely little dogs if brought up properly - because the Toys were originally bred for the sole purpose of companionship. So I'm building on that instead.. because I'm a positive person I suppose xD
Yeah, I agree that the bred-for-bloodsport breeds don't deserve their rep either, but I want to stick with the Toys because A) there's quite a number of wonderful people on dA already fighting against that stereotype, and B) I don't see anyone fighting for the Toys. In fact a number of people on this site seem to dislike Toys (Chis especially, I notice) for no apparent reason. But as I said I will probably touch on the 'aggressive' breeds somewhere in there, I am totally for the breaking of their rep. (and that story.. that's so stupid I can't believe it o_X; I might be a bit evil to the more 'popular' dogs too >D).
Thanks for commenting, it's always nice to meet a fellow dog freak who actually knows dogs

Oh yes, please be evil to GSDs, Labs, and Goldens....it might sound mean, but...yeah, I have my reasons.
As for Chihuahuas, any time a breed gets popular due to commerical or movies(taco bell, thanks a lot >.< ) you end up with a lot of BYBs with that breed, then all the movie stars carrying these dogs in bags...they need walking, just because they're small doesnt mean they don't need exercise, it makes the dogs nervous and hyper.
Thing that ticked me off in South Florida was how the toy dogs got special treatment even when they were clearly being aggressive towards people, and my 50lb Ibizan was considered a danger because of his size even though he has proven to be one of the best dogs youll ever see around even the most annoying of kids. -.- I ended up(because of where I lived and the fact I had to walk to pick my brother up from school and there had recently been a rapist on the loose, it was a requirement that I took Dali with me whenever I went out) picking up and carrying Dali through the school halls one rainy day to get my brother out of school, luckily the principal was no where to be seen, she HATED me and Dali, and my mom had even called her telling her why I had to have the dog, she said she didn't care and to keep Dali away from the kids, but it was ok for *any* small dog to be on school grounds even if they were clearly being aggressive. -.- It wouldn't of been such a concern if I knew that the dogs were socialized, but in that area? HA!
So thats one thing that really angers me, how some people think its ok for small dogs to be aggressive towards people because they can't do much damage(but yet small dogs have killed humans), and any large dog unless if its a collie, lab, or golden is a danger. Where has logic gone?
Personally, there are very very few toy breeds I would ever own, theyre just not my thing and theyre too small(hell, my whippets are even too small, I'm scared I'm gonna trip and squish them >.<, but I wish more breeders and owners really worked on temperment in them.

Muahaha.. not a problem >D I have my reasons too. Though I'm not really biased against any dog, I do think that they've had their share of the spotlight. Bring in the obscure breeds I say!
Yes.. again, because of the way small dogs are portrayed in the media - and perhaps because of their sheer size, people just treat them like animated stuffed animals and I think that too has something to do with their temperaments being spoiled. I've heard Paris Hilton actually dumped her Chi because he got too big.. :[ *throws rotten apples at her* I hate it when people don't treat their dogs like they're dogs.. it spoils them.
And that story is terrible too - again because of stereotypes. Maybe they're just not used to your Dali's appearance. Hmph. Who's to say that a Golden or a Lab or whatever might not turn vicious if mistreated or raised badly? Stupid people. Socializing a dog properly is freaking important. There's this Boxer living next to me that lunges aggressively at whoever walks past him.. he's bitten two small dogs already and had to be muzzled (thank goodness), but for a while I had to watch out for him whenever I took my IG outside. yet the Boxers I've met in my lifetime have all been the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. A lot has to do with how the owner raises them - some dogs are hard to raise properly because they can be difficult, but it is possible to form a bond with them.
So I suppose in short I want to break down all the doggy stereotypes I can find - stereotypes that have nothing to do with breed traits (i.e. the sighthounds will still be lazy and chase things, etc.), and perhaps show people that Toy dogs are not real freaking toys just because they're small >.<
On a sidenote, you are freaking lucky to have an Ibizan and whippets. I might end up stalking you and invading your house xDD I can understand if you say Toys aren't your thing.. to be honest they're not really mine either. I just dislike how they get portrayed because it affects how people see them - and they don't really deserve that.

I knew a girl who was nearly killed by her family's lab....if it hadnt been for her pit mix knocking the lab off, she probably wouldnt have survived.
I've had problems with boxers before, chicken killing ones that lept over the fence to get to my chickens and then even growled at my mom when she went to chase them off. And I had a boxer at one time, I just don't trust south Fl boxers...or most dogs in south florida for that matter, too many bad owners, too few good ones. I've had less problems with pits and rotts than anything else.
I'm not surprised at Paris....her toy even bit someone, one of the producers or something. -.-
Well, I'm lucky for the Ibizan, he's probably one of the best dogs temperment wise(not listening wise, listening wise was the pittie i had for far too short of a time) I could have ever asked for. If you didn't have an IG, i'd offer up a co-ownership to ya, i need to find co-owners for them for the sitution I'm in, going into, and so-on. Whippets really arent my thing, i would love to be in a place with a big yard and a good set up so i can start re-working them(i got them when i was in miami, when they were puppies, no one really wanted to touch them in my neighborhood, and a lot of things went wrong, so they really need to be worked with once i move and find them co-owners) myself, but, it's gonna take one or two co-owners(depending if people want to take one or both) and myself to get them on the right track. Theyre NZ imports, and very hard headed, very prey driven(tried to kill one of our cats), show quality though, but the way they act, youd swear theyre only hunting dogs -.-
Whats really going to be bad is how the AKC put toy fox terriers in the toy group....they should be in the terrier group. Theyre a hard on working dog, not a companion dog, its going to ruin the breed and have a lot of TFTs in the shelters because they are terriers first and foremost. Arg. >.<

Oh dear, that does sound awful. Too many people don't realise that keeping a dog is a serious responsibility and just take it too lightly I suppose. It's sad for all concerned.
If I actually lived in the US and wasn't just staying here for college I'd have jumped to take a co-ownership. Whippets are my favourite breed (if my dA screenname hadn't tipped you off).. though perhaps I'm not the best choice as I haven't a lot of real experience. I hope that will change in the future though
Ah yes.. the misgrouping of dogs. That's yet another bane. But eh, I do admire your efforts.. I can tell you care a lot for your dogs all the best..

Libbay is actually probably the easier one of the pair...Demon...well...for a whippet...he's a ding bat. -.- Its sad. I hope i don't sound too mean, but he's slow on a lot of things except for chasing, he's got an amazing grip though, its nearly impossible for me to pry his jaws off of a lure or jute tug(he'd be a good choice strength wise and his protectiveness for bite work 👍: 0 ⏩: 0
I've always been around dogs, but I wasnt perpared for Dali's stubborness and all the problems we had to work through. But it's been more than worth it.
People say blame the breed club, im sorry, but the AKC could be more strict, but the AKC is under investigation anyway from what I've heard, and people are leaving because they support the PAWS bill.
Well, i dunno, a large part of the American dog fancy leaves a lot to be desired, i think my goal for breeds im going to be in is to work for a working dog first and foremost. I would like very much to import Bully Kuthas(a pakastani fighting mastiff) and work with them heavily along side Ibizans. Odd choice maybe, but hey, why not?

ahhahhahah!!!!! thats sooo cool!!! I never see any pomeranian art anymore. Peaches reminds me of Jenna's friend (you know? the tiny one who really likes Steel???) hehe!! ive been watching that movie too much. The name really fits her personality, from what i can see. I love your coloring (as always)!!! It is so simple and the unique thing about it is that you don't shade every picture you paint/draw. I personally like the crispness of it. Simplicity is good . Anyways, very nice job!
p.s. - this one, surprisingly, does NOT remind me of anything related to dingoes!!!!! XD

Dixie. heh. I need to watch that movie again, I haven't seen it in years! I just borrowed it from my school library's animation cornucopia. *sighs with happiness* Unfortunately I have no DVD player and my laptop spat it out and refused to play it. Phooey. I have to go and buy one of those portable ones I suppose. Then I can watch in bed
And thanks simplicity is good. You notice that in many animated movies, they go without shading the characters for a lot of scenes, and it still looks kickass. Personally when it's a character or ref sheet, I prefer just to flat-colour my characters so it's easier to see what the base colours are. And I'm glad I was able to erase dingoes from your mind for one milisecond. (kidding!) xD

hehe!!!! Yeah its an awesome movie...almost as awesome as TLK. But then again it is better in some instances. lol!! oh well.
Yeah...i think that depending on the emotion of the picture the shading differs. But then again i'm dead tired and its only 11 pm here...-_- Flat color would make sense on a ref sheet. I'd really like to learn how to do cell shading sometime, tho. It comes out so cool (if you do it correctly, of course ). Just asking from the point of view of someone who's never tried any sort of in-depth shading on the computer, is cel-shading extremely difficult (wow that was a mouthful....)...
....Well sorry to burden you anyways hehe im asleep at the keyboard pretty much...and its only 11 (i said that already, didnt i??) ahh!!! Cheesy's gone insane!!!!! *bangs head on desk franticly* jkjk actually...ok...well i must do some gift art for you soon!!!! ive been meaning to but school's been driving me nuts.
In any case, very nice pic of Peaches! very unique and creative with both the color and design!
