Description
Yay yay yay I am excited.Okay, enough nonsense.. while attempting to jack my stubbornly numb brain into thinking of ideas for a script I had to write for my storytelling class (it's finished more or less now, thank goodness), I came up with a brand new concept! It's been so long since I've done that that I'm getting excited. heh. (I was going to use a character or two for my script, but it was supposed to be a short film so I decided against it since it just kept expanding -_-;
Anyway. It's a fairly new concept, and it's still in the process of solidifying in my head, but basically it's about a pack of disgruntled Toy dogs who are out to prove the true nature of the stereotypically useless yappy annoying fuzzball. (And show up those damn Rin Tin Tin and Lassie wannabes while they're at it, by Canis.) I don't know what to call it, where it's going or anything but I do know I want to explore it further. Toy dogs get a bad enough rep as it is - a totally undeserved one, I might add. I might try attacking some other canine stereotypes while I'm at it.. I can't stand stereotypical/generic dog characters. They're freaking boring. Dogs have as much variety in their personalities (doganalities?) and quirks as humans do, even despite the traits bred into them, and that's something I do want to tackle. So yeah. Didn't intend to write y'all an essay about this, but there you are. When I feel strongly about something, that's the way I am.
This is Peaches the Pom, the first of my new characters for this and the leader of the pack. She may look like a cream puff - and enjoy a good brushing and a couple of Best in Show titles - but don't let that fool ya.. she's smart, sassy and an alpha female through and through. Nonetheless she is affectionate and loyal, and very good with small children if they don't pull her tail too hard. I just love her :3
I think there'll be four or five dogs in the pack in total, not counting the background characters. I'll upload sheets for all of them

Yeah, he thinks he's human as well. you see him on two legs more often than four, and instead of using his mouth, uses his paws to grab things. is that normal for poms?

I am absolutely in love with that idea. It's so original, and all the characters have so much attitude to them. Your typical canine "hero" is a large active dog with a heart of gold...Pfft, go toys!
I wrote a dog-character-based story once (well, lots of them, but I only finished one) and fell victim to the wolf-dog stereotype. It's wonderful to see someone out there to break the stereotypes. Also, I just love how all the characters are so individual. My characters end up bland and unrefined most of the time.
Best of luck with the story!

Aww, thank you!
Just irritated me how it's ALWAYS the generic man's best friend types that are the heroes of everything involving dogs, I guess.. that and I've seen Toys and such get a lot of undeserved bad press :\ Anyways thanks for the support as well.. and gah, it's funny you should say that, because I was just thinking that my characters are beginning to lack depth and I should work harder on them xD

Aww..Poms are the cutest little things...wouldn't want to own one, but they're adorible to look at and pet once in a while. Don't get me wrong, I've got NO prejudice against the little guys...I just like bigger dogs for some reason or another. I'm ALL for beating down those damned labs! Ugh! They're supposed to be "so intelligent" and shit...but I've met quite a few that are dumb as doornail and annoying as hell. I grew up with a Golden...so I really can't hate on them much. I love GSDs though...and all that talk about generic dog characters is making me want to overlook my newest GSD character a bit o.x OH! I had an IG at work the other week...the cutest little girl! So full of energy and love XD! We get quite a bit of Chis who are hard to hate as well. Peaches is adorible! The name itself is so perfect! The expression on her face tells all about her

Nah it's okay.. I get nervous around tiny doggies too.. I'm so scared I might break them! Still, I may end up owning one in the end. I spent the later years of childhood and teenage years with an IG, so I'd probably be okay with one of them
I can't really hate on stereotypical dogs.. they can't help being what they are. I hate the light that people tend to shine on them, because of breed characteristics and whatnot: collies, GSDs and retrievers tend to be seen as oh-so-wonderful-faaithful-and-perfect-man's-best-friend whereas the Toys are the yappy annoying or spoiled prissy brats, and the Bulldogs and Boxers etc. are the nasty, sinister bullies. So this is just my attempt at breaking that. It gets tiring after a bit.
And aww you're lucky to have that IG. I have a Chi character as one of my upcoming Toys because they get a lot of bad press too.. thanks to one Miss Hilton. *throws tomato*

Oh yeah! I understand...the dachshunds always feel especially breakable! It's true...the dogs were bred to be what they are...can't help it really. They just sometimes tend to get on my nerves. I think I really despise the "light" shined on the bully dogs. My mom goes along with it all..I love the Dobies and the Rotties and my mom hates them cause they're "mean" and "unable to be family dogs." Yay for a Chi! I used to hate them, but they're growing on me a lot. My sister really wants a long-haired lol.

Yeah, people stereotype dogs all the time and nobody realises it.. I don't think I've EVER seen anyone try to break it. So I thought I'd be the first And that bully dogs not being able to be family dogs gets on my nerves too, which is why I'm going to do a little aside to that in my Toy thing

Yeah ^.^ I was lucky...I had a lot of really unique coats in my dachshunds' lines with speckles and chocolatey colors. I think the breeding all started when I was around 8 or 9. My current one, Chocolate, was from our first litter. He was the largest and such a beauty. Unfortuneately, he's not so sleek and graceful lol. He's too huge for that and has scars from bed sores when he was fighting parvo. He's still my baby, though I think I've got a few puppy pics in my gallery and definitely some of my buddy...

I'll admit, I do a lot of dog stereotyping, but that does sound like a really awesome idea. It's original and interesting, not to mention that I LOVE movies/stories/whatever you said you were going to do with this when they use characters with personalities that don't fit with their stereotypes. Great character design too, I'd say she DEFINATELY has the spunk to carry the pack.

Yeah, so did I for a while. It's not that I'm condemning it so much as that it happens so much everywhere and I get sick of the same old story after a while. Honestly, if it's done well I'm game for almost anything.
And I LOVE those too which is why I'm going to try and carry it off here. Thanks so much

Ooh, maybe, now that you've mentioned it. I've only seen one live one in my life (not that all the others were dead, they were just pictures xD). I'd love to put all the Toy breeds in there somehow - five for the main group, I think, and then some others to act as backup. I thought it would also be a fun experiment since the only Toy breed I draw a lot is the IG.. and also because you never see Toy dogs as heroes in anything -_-;;
Thanks for the tip-off!

awww I just kneeww she was a pom lookit all that fluff! hehe and those little ears I love the character and story behind her! Your whole concept of busting down dog stereotypes is great - afteral there are so many breeds and even groups of dogs that get reps that they plain out don't deserve - toys, am staffs, rottweilers etcetera. Very nice!!

LOL thanks Aku! It took me forever to get her looking remotely Pommish I tell you.
Yes.. I hate stereotypes in general (though I can appreciate their use in comedy/spoofs and suchlike), but I realised that it's dog stereotypes that I can't stand the most. And nobody seems to be trying to break those down.. in fact they just seem to want to make it worse. So I thought I'd be the first xD there's more to dogs than most people think.
